Probably a stupid question but iam just curious, On the he500 both speakers are marked, One is Left and the other right, the cable also has the same markings!! Unknown to me,i actually had them crossed (L to R and R to L) After changing them, so they match up, there is no difference (not that i expected there to be) but just wondering, what is the purpose of these? I mean if i place the Right cup over my left ear, does it really matter?

It would matter when a sense of space is important like Orchestral or a band you know that plays a specific way.  It would also matter in gaming as left becomes right if the cable is switched around.  The left/right channel from the source is fed into the opposite headphone.

If you listen to music that you have no idea how the band is configured then it will not matter.
