Have you addressed the wobbly volume knob? I believe that was a great turnoff for such a gloriously designed device for many buyers in a local shop where the Element was being shown off.

This was at Headphone Bar in Vancouver. The volume knob would freely tilt in its place and had no firmness or weight to it. I did find it odd, I suppose this was a faulty demo unit.

So with the second option, automatic DAC line-output, I would be able to connect an electrostatic headphone amp while using The Element as a DAC, right? Just wanted to make sure.

I'm sure it's the unit, I have used a number of different Elements, including my own, and the knob is solid, girthy, and awesome.  I really love the Element, it's great both in sound and design, and it drives Planars with ease.

I think it was the unit, faulty indeed. And yeah, it has gobs and gobs of power to drive pretty much anything outside of an HE-6
