Did somebody already try to use those adapters for wallvart powered amp ?

They can give a lot of power (usual output : 16/19 V, 3A ), function as well on 120V as on 220V and can be grabbed for less than 20$ on ebay.

Interesting idea... The only problem is that PC PSU's are not designed for low noise operation... Still if you provided some compensation for this, it might work well.

Hello,

Likelihood of it being a switching power supply is extremely high with notebook computer PSUs. In fact, the use of switching powersupply is standard for nearly all the computer power supply in general.

Switching power supply, unless operating at super high frequency, is not really good because you get small spikes from switching all over.

If you want quality, you really need to invest time and money. And PSU is almost the life of amplifier. (especially so with descrete amps) I would NEVER cheap out on my PSU and neither should you.

(Super high frequency switching power supply is used for audio, but they cost as much anyways. Again there is no easy way out. You get nothing if you pay nothing.)
