LAMPIZATOR THREAD COMMENTS REVIEWS TUNING

Thanks! Yes, I know, one could spend a fortune on tubes and so much energy as well. If I would have known how much I would have spent, I would have gone for a better dac in the beginning. But it has also been a fun jury where I learned a lot about tubes and got nice friends through the community :) the footprint on the Poseidon is what made me not go down that road, I couldn’t fit it in my rack and it would look to big in this apartment 😅
And unlike the value of Lampi DACs, those tubes will hold their value and might even go up in price.

Has anyone compared Lampizator with Linear Tube Audio Aero?

Anyone able to point me to a functional link for a Big7 Mk3 manual? Thank you.

Like the B4, the Tambaqui sounds very “analog” and has no digital “glare” or leanness despite not having a tube output stage. It conveys a sonic authority but does so in an effortless way, i.e. it never sounds like it is “trying too hard” or “forcing high detail, or imaging, or a sense of the recorded space, etc.” on the listener although those qualities are there in spades. I think it is suitable for all genres but that is also greatly influenced by the amp and headphone pairing. My B4 is paired with a solid state HSA-1b driving an Immanis which I thought needed a bit of tube warmth to round the chain out. Conversely, the Tambaqui is paired with a 300B SET amp which doesn’t necessarily need more “tubeyness” (but I do plan to test the pairing with the B4 eventually).
I actually changed direction with the B4 and returned it to the dealer during the RMA window and instead got a gently used Big7 Mk3 as I am very partial to DHTs. The Big7 also pairs very well with the HSA-1b driving the Immanis. Tomorrow, I'm doubling down on the DHT goodness and going from the Big7 (running 45s) into the Icon 205D amp running, well, 205Ds.

Speaking of 205Ds, any Big7 owners who can comment on the supported voltage range for the two DHT heater settings (45 vs. 300B) on the DAC? For example, will the 300B setting also support 205Ds given that tube operates off 4.5v / 1.6 amps while the 300B expects 5v / 1.2 amps?

Hi, i would like to ask what have made you decide to sell DA200 and buy Big7 instead?

Tubes. I really like tube-based circuits. I acquired the Baltic 4 as I’d never heard a tube DAC and I liked it very much upon listening. That then introduced the dilemma of I don’t need 3 DACs (Tambaqui, B4, and DAC200) so I narrowed down to the Lampi and the Mola Mola as the T+A is a great DAC but the MM is still better in the non-tube DAC space. I swapped the B4 for the Big7 because I (big generalization here) prefer 45-, 205D-, and 300B-based DHT circuits over 6SN7s. The B4 is also a very good (and certainly more compact) DAC compared to the Big7 but the DHT circuit brings some sonic attributes I like more — the Big7 is more spacious, less bombastic, and the bass is deeper and more textured.

The Big7 Mk3 feeding the Icon Audio HP205D running Psvane WE205D replicas (DHT DAC into DHT SET amp setup) into Final D8K Pro LEs was wonderful. Not overly "tubey" but certainly full and very musical. Highly recommended.

did anyone use the 2nd hand policy before? The one where the original owner sends the dac back to the factory for a checkup, and then Lampizator sends it directly to you?

How is the experience?

I did with my first Lampi DAC purchase (a Golden Atlantic). The process went smoothly and you can have upgrades or mods done while it is at the factory. My only tip is to have Lampi Poland arrange all shipping (both the seller shipping to the factory and then Lampi Poland shipping to the buyer). Because they have a relatively large account with DHL, they get preferred rates, I believe, plus, you want them in charge generally.

Thank you for sharing your experience!

From what I gather from other places, Lampi seems to be a relatively reasonable company, I guess I should look out for some listings :)

Hi, @BlakeT , Since you have experience with Lampi GG2 and Pacific 2 could you please give some comparison notes both versus Golden Gate 3??

Thanks to a hifi friend I have the opportunity to audition Golden Atlantic 3 and see how the differences in performance from Poseidon feel to my ears. Running GA3 with Siemens F2A and WE 422a. Poseidon is stock tubes and RCA rectifier (might use the WE when I get back to Poseidon to see how things change).

Also funny to see the size and build quality difference - it isn’t close lol
How is the top plate on Poseidon? Rattling like this one (on Horizon360):

?

I saw a listing of an Atlantic TRP 3 using a Soviet 6H8C in the rectifier slot, any idea what is going on?

Wow! You’re not the first I’ve heard mention this but after hearing this it surprises me they would think that is acceptable- especially for the price they’re asking! I tried tapping the copper top on my Golden Atlantic TRP3 and it was nothing near what you’re experiencing.
