LAiV Harmony uDDC Re-clocker/DDC

Tell me, is Ustars C19 a player or a streamer? Is it possible to connect a hard drive with music to it?
Not sure if you can connect a hard drive but expect so, I got mine working briefly streaming Tidal - sounded great - then foolishly installed a Ropiee OS update which screwed the USB audio out (yet to resolve). Translated manual in the linked post below may have the answer, courtesy of @FredA

Well that's a nice surprise.... I've just tried the Laiv stack (uDDC=> Harmony DAC => HP2A => Meze Elite) using Coax input from my Marantz CD7 (bought and cherished from the 90s) with Double Crown DAC. To my ears it sounds different but as good as streaming/SSD from the Eversolo, though I'm conscious of "confirmation bias". I listen mainly to Prog/Rock so the music can be pretty dense.

Wondered what other people's experience of using CD Transport/Players inputs with the uDDC was ......... My CD7 is a like an old friend of the family

Not sure if the only usb port supports hard drives. I doubt it. Something to ask to an ali seller. If so, you would be left with using either eas/ebu, rca or hdmi as audio output. I use a file server via a LHY sw6 switch. Works great.

As for whether the c19 is a player vs a streamer, it depends on the Pi sw you have installed on the microsd. It is a good choice for those who want an ugrade from a Rpi4 or a usbridge signature (also pi-based).

I use CD exclusively - started with Denon SACD player back in the 90s like you, then climbed up the ladder since the new DACS appeared on the scene, with Audiolab 6000CDT, followed by Audiolab 9000CDT, then HALLCRO disc player (does CD, SACD as well as DVD video), and finally best of all is my new TEAC 701 VRDS CDT. Each upgrade gave a significant improvement in sound quality, with the TEAC being simply stunning! As with vinyl, the transport is a most important part of the system producing sound from CDs via the Harmony DAC that is way ahead of anything I've heard on the supposedly higher resolution SACD format.

Edit, as I'm not permitted to make another post:

I decided to try & squeeze as much juice as I could from the LAiV units so just added a LHY Ock 2S Master Clock, connecting it to the uddc as well as to my CD transport, for a further stunning improvement! The clock is very simple to install, needing 1 hour warm up - but there are no instructions included. Presumably it should be left powered up 24/7 because of the internal heat generator - can anyone comment on this?

My digital (CD only) system is now so good that I decided to sell my LP turntable & associated paraphernalia, having not used it in ages. Including thousands of records. I had mixed thoughts & feelings of regret, but now that it has left the house & gone to a good home I'm enjoying the extra space and simplicity of digital life!

Hi Fluty - missed your inputs..... especially on the CD side. Hope you can contribute again soon....

I find that CD is the best of all, much better than streaming, and a better transport is really worthwhile. The uDDC made a huge improvement here, to my CD system. I've had "upgrade-itis" for a couple of years and bought an Audiolab 6000 cdt, followed by same brand 9000 cdt, each step giving a significant improvement. Then HALCRO disc player because it could play SACD (but only through its own internal dac), still playing CD through the Harmony dac. Finally I've upgraded yet again to a TEAC VRDS 701T with stunning results. More modern CD transports have improved a lot since the 90s, when I used a Denon unit similar to your CD7. Check the reviews!
Edite: just realised I said all this before - sorry for repeating!

You mentioned in an earlier post that the LHY Audio OCK-2S master clock really improved matters for the uDDC and your CD Transport. Could you describe the improvements, increased soundstage, clarity ? I am interested in externally clocking the uDDC which has improved the soundstage on my system.

The LHY clock connects to both to my CD transport and the uDDC, resulting in all round improvements of the same magnitude as when first connecting the uDDC to the Harmony DAC. What I notice, in each case, is the increase in detail and imaging. The detail brings with it a greater soundstage, more precision and real life accuracy.
