Looking good indeed. However, it definitely seems to require a headphone amp, as the DAC output seems rather weak.

Regarding the new USB powered Korg DAC:
 
It will NOT be sold outside of Japan
 
First production is limited to 1000 units. 
 
Release in Japan is sometime in Nov, 2012. 
 
While there is no official retail price, selling price is said to be around 50,000 JPY. 
 
It will output native DSD up to 5.6 Mhz, BUT only on Windows and with ASIO.
It will of course, output up to 192K on both MAC and Windows computers.
 
The DAC chip is the same as the MR1000 and MR2000s recorders: Cirrus Logic CS4398.  [size=12.666666984558105px]

It is powered solely by the USB output.

Thank you for the info.  So it will not do DSD at all in OS X or just not at 5.6Mhz?

The Japanese data that I have does not differentiate between 2.8 and 5.6 Mhz when discussing Native DSD output.  So, one would assume that Native DSD is only possible with Windows ASIO; they also specifically mention that ASIO has to be 2.1 or higher.  I will try to confirm this for you and get back to you later this week.

Hi Neville and sorry for the delay!
 
As the DAC has not been released yet, I cannot say for sure, but I do know that the DAC chip is the same as in both the MR1000 and MR2000s recorders so one might think that they would also use the same OP amps and it would basically sound the same.  I will see if I can confirm more about this and let you know.

A bit more information regarding the DAC. 
 
It is NOT using the same OP AMP as in the recorders so should sound better. 
 
They are using a TI OP AMP with
a somewhat high slew rate of 8.5 V/μs (min)
very low THD:  0.0002%
Intermodulation Distortion  0.0004%

Japan is a 100 volt country, very bad for sound....... 
 
The East of the country is 50Hz, while the west is 60Hz.  Go figure....... 
When you have DC powered gear, it doesn't matter.
