Knowledge Zenith (KZ) impressions thread

I suppose KZ ZAT could have the two edition like castor
the "fun" tuned and the "analytical" tuned.

I was a bit worried with the tuning when i see Paul's graph
but if the actual product is closer to the official graph than pauls (or with mild setup changes, it reach that) it would be pretty decent offering.

possibly the 8k+ tuning is to avoid that metallic/sibilant sounds.
It was noted by Hifri that Bellsing Mid BAs is getting a lot better and pretty close with Knowles with proper setup.
but Treble or high freq, there is still gap between Bellsings with Knowles (and obviously Sonion).
8khz is okay, past 8khz is very rolled off trebles, where all the details, soundstage, imaging and air are there. It could be better of they tuned the extension past 8khz like boost on 12khz like krila or castor. Thats the secret of the magic

What is the level of separation and layering on PR2, compared to ZS10 pro x?

The PR2, at least to my ears, has thinner note weight and has more width going on. This leads me to think that it is a step above the ZS10 Pro X but it might be due to the sacrifice in perceived note weight. The ZS10 Pro X does separation really well but it's not quite on the same level as the PR2.

I think there is a likely better note weight with the ZS10 Pro X at the sacrifice of sounding less "refined" or resolving. An example would be if I am paying attention/closely listening for room dynamics or studio effects (example - room or hall reverb applied to a guitar or a vocal) in a studio recording with the PR2. The PR2 sounds a bit more convincing than the ZS10 Pro X when compared in A-B.

*This subjective take was done using the same Dunu S&S eartips and the same 2-pin Kbear Chord balanced cable going into my Ibasso DC04 Pro dongle with both sets.

But I think both sets sound very good. What I've been doing lately is using the ZS10 Pro X on bus commutes with Symbio F eartips for additional isolation/bass presence. And using the PR2 mainly at home for music and gaming with S&S eartips.

Thank you!
(I asked KZ about ZAT including E-mailing Judy, got a very generic reply "next week", well, not great at all for them).

I ordered ZAT now anyway, hopefully, as an improvement of ZAX, since DDs in Krila and Castor are on "the next level".
I also added Pianist - I am sure I will love its trebly nature, and its inspiration from the movie alone is worth supporting this CCA project :)

Has KZ fixed the PR2's going out the door yet regarding the filter pads? I managed to get one of the early pairs that still had the filter pad on the inside that was removed after pre-orders. I know they were pumping them out for a while without. But I actually enjoy mine at the desk on some nicer amps, or if I have a strong pocket amp with me for my phone.

I'm curious about your opinion on The Pianist. They hit the maximum of my tolerance in the upper registers, but it is also a peak that completely engages my attention and makes the music very engaging. Clearly, I am a treblehead. In classical music, however, I could still raise that level a bit.

they have two of the new trident reed 29689 ba in one tube, two of 31736 with the 8mm dd. two of 31736 with two 30019. I'm mostly interested in the overall coherence of the drivers and crossovers. I've not yet tried the new generation 29689, ive only heard the og as16's 29689. which was very sharp and metallic sounding.

Glad you enjoyed PR2. But I do not recommend PR2 at all. They were very shouty to me. A set I decided to part ways after an hour. Although they're cheap at around $30 rn, you could still allocate those funds to other options, even PR1 is more worthwhile if KZ planar has to be the choice. At least their added bass/warmth can mask out some sibilance. YMMV, this is just a hype killing comment.

Weirdly in the product description on the KZ site, there is a reference to the 30095 which is not used in the ZAT:

"The third optimization and upgrade of the 30095 ultra high-frequency balanced armature greatly enhance sensitivity response in the ultra high-frequency range, delivering even richer sound details."

Strange.
