Kiwi Ears IEM Thread

Dec 20, 2024 at 3:59 PM Post #47 of 71
Looking for some quick help lol ! I just got a pair of the Orchestra Lite through the post, the sparse instructions say "make sure to connect" the correct cable to the correct earpiece, I can see the red on the cable but i cant find an L or R on either earpiece? Also the white, black and black/red earpieces are they just different colours or do they offer anything different in sound quality?

The earpieces should be fairly intuitive.
Just make sure the Kiwi Ears logo is the correct way up when putting them in your ears and you'll quickly have L & R sorted out.
The different silicone tips are mostly for finding the best seal and comfort. There's no significant difference in sound quality between them, although if one of tips obviously doesn't fit well for your ears, it may have a strong negative effect on the sound.

Thanks Greq, it was just the instructions said there was marking on the earpieces, but i found someone else has posted the same thing elsewhere, so i just tried to work it out by seeing how it fitted in my ear, was just feart of breaking them before even putting them on lol.
I tried the smallest black pieces and the sound was awful, like it was an a.m. radio, so tried the biggest black pieces and the sound is great, but the left piece has popped out a couple of times, ive had this issue before years ago, i honestly think one ear is bigger than the other, probably the one my mum used to pull me on :D

I usually put some light sticky foam on the outside of earpieces, to prevent any damage from them banging together, but the shells actually seem quite sturdy? I bang these things together when taking them off all the time! :)

Off to drink beer and burn them in ! :D
Thanks again :)

Well they finally did it. They crossed over into Hybrid heaven here. Literally the best Kiwi I have ever heard. Yep, and the price is only $129.99! What I’m trying to say is they have taken 4 custom BAs and a DD, then got the tune down, very little off timbre. I mean sure there is a taste of it but far better than you can even imagine. Here really they are emulating the competition of the SR9 at half the cost! Hello 2025, yep we are in the future!

Only Sound Rhyme better get their act together now, after the release of this. Yep, it is a better IEM and half the SR9 $299.00 price. Sure less DD bass tone, only there is a prefect balance. In fact (I like Hybrids best) but this is (in my opinion) is the very best IEM to ever come out of Kiwi ears? The Airoso is better............more pure than the Quintet, and I like it even better than the Orchestra Lite.

Why, better lows than the Orchestra Lite, with the combo of LCP and PU DD and 4 great BA……….the Airoso can do no wrong! IMO!

Titanium faceplate and 3D resin build, showcasing the epitome of small/medium form factor at 5 grams. The metal nozzle and over-all size means perfect fitment, for me anyway? But what I can’t get over was I was offered the Airoso for review and with Kiwi ears offering so much now as far as full-size headphones and a new planar, 15.3mm Aether……..I was overwhelmed by all the choices Linsoul/Kiwi ears had given me……..and wildly almost passed-up on the Airoso. Then I looked at it again, and realized that really the Airoso was a Hybrid, and could be my sound. 10/10 in fitment, build and tonality. I need not say anymore.

Wait, OK one more thing, while early today I started with the Ardor ANC Full-size headphone……..and sure later today I will get to first impressions, only this Airoso frankly blew-me-away.

Wait until you hear the Aether ;)
Haha, that should hopefully be in a day or so. But I have always liked Hybrids slightly better than Planar IEMs. Still, what am I saying, I’m crazy.......I like all good sounding IEMs, still though I really like the extra separation you get from Hybrids.

On another note:
To tell you the truth, I was curious about the Kiwi ears Ardor.
First impressions:

Screen Shot 2025-02-22 at 10.54.54 AM.png

The word Ardor means enthusiasm or passion, and this particular headphone is a first for Kiwi ears, even though the company has put out a slew of different full-size headphones this month. The one standout design feature here is the actual downplayed naming on the side of the cups...........and I like that. A soft padded close back cup headphone design.

Kiwi ears known previously as a IEM maker and portable Amp/DAC maker has expanded into full-size headphones with a bang.

The Aventus Full-size at $89.99
The Ardor at $99.99
The Atheia at $349.00
The Ellipse at $79.00
The Division at $49.00

So what got my curiosity going was both the 140 hours of play time (ANC off) and the fact that it ran on Bluetooth 5.4. Plus it has been awhile since I got caught-up with wireless technology. Keep in mind the Ardor also offers TypeC DAC/Amp decoding as well as true audiophile 3.5mm plug-in to your favorite DAP. There is a spacial effect in TypeC cable as well as TWS. Even a charge time of 10 minutes can give you 8 hours of playback. I never read the manuals, but the manual is a literal phonebook here. Range from your phone can be up to 240 meters.

In use:
First off I have to say the audiophile snoot in me had me question just how good wireless could in-fact be? Now I don’t want to exaggerate but the overall tone is a basic Harmon with wireless and TypeC getting just loud enough, but nothing drastic.........but actually pretty loud, at maybe the limit of loudness for myself? Maybe the ANC reduced the volume slightly but really for the most part they were equal. Probably the best part was good wireless voice sync, meaning YouTube videos did have a slight ever so slight lag in speech, but it was some of the best I have experienced. The other great thing was the over-all weight………….at just 285 grams, though the specs say 290grams?

But, the best part, besides the sound, was the Bluetooth connection. Out of the many Bluetooth items I have reviewed I have never encountered anything like this Bluetooth connectivity. Yep, I could go into a bathroom and through a 7 inch brick wall the signal was seamless. Now that is amazing as the signal never ever cuts out, but then I went downstairs to weigh the Ardor on my humble kitchen scale, and the first headphone in history the only cut out a few times in the process.........this is going to a different floor in the house?

The sound:
First off something started to happen even after a few hours of burn-in, that the Ardor started to really sound good going wireless and even way better finding it’s true audiophile potential going 3.5mm from the included cable from my Sony WM1A DAP. I mean sure the DAP shows the true potential of the drivers, but that is not what I was interested in, I wanted the Ardor for outside.

Functions:
A red light goes on to show it is getting a charge from your USB TypeC. When disconnected the headphones go on searching for a signal, or if you simply have it hooked to a phone via USB TypeC it also charges that way. When hooked to 3.5mm the signal takes over if two types of connections are given. The best part is the searching shows up as an alternating red and blue light, and it shows up (as Bluetooth) on your phone without delay. There is only one volume (song forward or reverse) toggle switch on the left, and a single button for on and off. The right side holds the ANC button that gives (female voice) talking notes as to the function of ANC ON.........ANC OFF........then Transparency ON, and finally ANC ON again…….once more as you cycle though. But that button is on the forward left place of the headphones, not the back to give ease of use, meaning it is level with your eyes.

Now the crazy part is after you turn your phone volume to zero you can test each ANC setting live!

This means there are three levels of sound occlusion. The Transparency ON gives you the ambient highs outside in the room, the ANC OFF is second and finally (if you use a room fan like I do) the ANC ON function literally diminishes 35dB of outside noise (which is a crazy amount) with about 3dB (plus or minus) being the occlusion range from the 5 different on-board listening microphones. The Ardor also of course can be used for phone calls.

All and all I am very very happy with the sound and find the bass balance to never interfere with the mids, to where the extra 10mm coaxial treble provider is added to the 40mm bass provider to give a full and totally easy going acceptable sound…………just don’t expect to reach ear shattering volumes!

The Transparency ON mode must be using the microphones to add outside sounds? To where ANC OFF is using the shells of these closed back headphones to occlude the outside sound, and finally the ANC ON is a bewildering great level of noise occlusion which makes the background even blacker and deeper in headphone playback!

Now the final wild part of today's testing was finding plugging in the 3.5mm to my Samsung phone was noticeably lower volume than Bluetooth in 5.4 Bluetooth. Except of course 3.5mm was noticeably louder than Bluetooth 5.4 with the Sony WM1A! Now the icing on the proverbial cake was disconnecting the 3.5mm from the phone and having a female voice say connected, meaning the 5.4 was instantly joined to my phone for a louder playback, really all the loudness I need, though only lacking from hardwired to the Sony DAP would be extra stage and pace positioning along with extra Sony DAP instrument separation! Also it should be noted with 3.5mm input you only have a choice on ANC ON or OFF.

Still I’m using this wireless going out of the house, and it is perfect especially with the ANC in effect………………

Review up!
https://www.head-fi.org/showcase/kiwi-ears-aether.27951/reviews#review-37221
So...........impressions of IEMs are a lot like singer impressions (to the judges) on the X Factor reality game show. The tone and ability to remain true to life with the winning results being even and consistent/correct as far as IEM tone. This style of completeness is what makes the singers on X Factor stars, as well as our humble IEM tone choices. XXXXX

Guess what? The Aether got 5 stars! Count them all five! This is due to becoming a Planar benchmark.........and no need to take my word on this, truly multiple YouTube videos say this, as well as a plethora of written reviews!

If you don't buy them, you are missing out on IEM history, simple. :smile_phones:
