KGSShv Carbon - hows it sound with the 009s?

Yes, I can totally see how amplifiers will influence the different characteristics of both 009 and or 009S. Except the “god like” KG-T2. I have to say that I enjoy both as equally out of the T2. However, the 009 is still a much more preferable one to me

the whole production of no-stax amps has been clearly organized on the characteristics of 009, obviously now that the 009s sounds quite different, I do not speak better or worse but a different sound, it is quite normal that you should rethink more projects fresh and maybe updated.
Now I understand that the t8000 is not much appreciated and still expensive, but I have a very positive feedback of the pair with the 009s, I myself am impressed by the high range of the small srm d10 that seems better than the Carbon.

Sal, having (finally ) listened to both side-by-side, I agree 009S is different from 009 and so ampli working best with 009 may not work at best with 009S. as usual, the final judge is only our own ears

Mike, the headphones are very different, I lived 6 years with the old 009 and also to my ears the 009s sounds strange, I would say a low and in some muddy bass and a less sparkling high range, for sure if I had to think of el34 I would not think of the Mullard xf2 / xf4 but I would go with the Siemens that have low buckets and a lot of air on the high range, fortunately I have two spare quartets.
The thing that makes me think is that I read for years of 009 with difficulty listening for too much highs, and now that the new 009s does not have it, we complain anyway ... ahahahah!

Which "siemens" el34 would you be referring to? Although there are siemens branded el34 tubes, they didn't actually make any...

you pay the tube, it sounds fantastic, i play xf2 and xf4, but prefer Rft because are more dynamic.

Fair enough - not for me to say what you prefer. My only point was that siemens didn't make any el34 tubes.

you asked and I answered, it does not matter what is written on the tube, but the quality of a tube, for that, you do not have to read but listen and have a good ear.

It will only cry when you can find someone who has the parts and will to build it for the original version. Or if Kerry can pull it off for you in a not so long of a waiting period ? If you would rather stick to more current productions components

Yes, the original transistors are getting more and more expensive as they are harder to find, but even the new transistors get discontinued from time to time. So this will always be a problem.

Is the DAC section of the D10 the same or different from the D50?

I assume the amp side is more powerful with the D50

As far as I know, Kevin Gilmore has never designed his amps (BHSE, KGSS Carbon, GG, Megatron, etc.) around a particular headphone, and the SRX Plus, which is my modification of the old Stax SRX DIY design, is based on a circuit that was released in the 1970s, long before the SR009, or even the original Stax Omega, was ever thought of. And honestly, it doesn't make sense for an amplifier designer to tailor his amp for a particular headphone, or even a particular brand, since there is no telling what headphone the end user is going to choose.

The D50 is capable of 1100 VPSS with a maximum current output of 5ma
The D10 is capable of 700 VPSS with a maximum current output of 8ma
(you can modify the d10 to 12ma real easy, but battery life disappears)

you change the 4 x 100 ohm resistors to 4 x 75 ohm resistors. any more current than that and the power supply sags.
taking it apart is rather hard. getting it back together is much harder.
