Min. RAM size 64 MB? Is this cool or what?

It's cool, but it probably takes a hit to battery life because of it.

If you don't care that much about 2-3 extra hours of battery life, I guess it doesn't matter that much.

I think they included the 64MB buffer to be able to fit a reasonable number of FLAC songs into buffer. That could just be me though.

64MB of buffer could be a potentially useful thing if you're using the Karma for excericising, as you could fit a half hour of 256K/s VBR in RAM.

This is far from a 'useless' feature. Espically with FLAC. Could you imagine only having a 4 minute buffer with FLAC, like the iRiver iHP series would have?

Meh.

It seems that FLAC would be pretty hard on the harddrive, then. Not as bad as WAV, but WAV for portable's isn't a very good choice..

Still better than the iHP-120.. I wonder how the iHP-120 maintains it's stellar battery life with such a small buffer..

is it possible that iHP use the same buffer for music and firmware??

The iHP has a 10-MB buffer, AFAIK.

From various song grouping/sizing tests, the IHP-120 behaves as if the music buffer is 16MB in size. You can start play in a directory of 16MB of songs and seek, skip, rewind, and so on without causing additional drive spin up. However, if you work with a directory over 16MB, you will see additional spin ups. Since, the IHP-120 still has the DB readily accessible, more memory must be available for that feature, too.
