Im about to buy the K701 as I like the look of the K701 over the K702. However I would eventually want to upgrade the cable so my question is can you re-cable the K701 with (for eg) ALO cryo cable or is only the K702 you can do this?

I recabled my own K701's to a dual entry cable. PM me if you want details

Check out Jacob at Soloz. Here's the link and the prices are reasonable. ALO is really expensive.

Agree, that's why I bought the Jena cables direct and diy the cable mod for HD650, far cheaper than they offered even with the Cardas connectors and Furutheh plug.

Thanks for the replies so far.

Does anybody have a thread that shows a DIY on solely recabling the K701 (besides Junliang's suggestion - thanks)

Indeed. I'm not a recabling detractor. Although it might be worth it in certain cases, with certain headphones, I wouldn't even consider doing it to the K701 until I had $1500-2000 invested in a source/amp, and even then probably not. If you do, go for it. But I've heard a recabled (and balanced) K701 and believe it's already perfectly capable of being a window up the chain to your other gear in its stock condition. Of course if you're looking for a DIY project, there's a certain value in the experience, without factoring in the end result. Good luck.

Make sure you follow guides for the K701 or have someone help you, K701 is one of the toughest to recable.

Yea, it's certainly not bad once you've recabled other headphones...but it's definitely not an easy one especially when it's the first recable.

Is recabling K701 worth the trouble?
