K501s with K701s pads is an amazing transformation!

Hehe. K501 seems to be FOTM for July. Too bad they're nearly obsolete now.

If your pads are velvet and and vary in thickness then they may just be color variants of K701 pads so making the switch may not make any difference. I've never seen K601 pads so this is just my naive opinion.

K601 pads are velour and the same thickness all around. Their not as thick or stiff as the K501 pads. I have a pair of K500s with extremely thin and soft pads. To me they sound better than the stock K500. At some point, I'll switch the pads and see if that makes a difference.

the k501 has been a FOTM foreverrr

damn all these posts making me feel bad about trading them away

btw I tried 501 with 601 pads...not too great a combination for me, drivers were situated too close to the ears

I had done this to my K501's and was so happy with them I decided they could stand on their own and sold my HD600.

This does indeed improve the k501 IMO, making it a more fully rounded presentation. It does not make them bass-monsters by no means, but it adds that last bit they are lacking to me.

I'd still have them had I not heard the K701's.

btw, anyone try the k501 pads on their k701? I didn't think much of it but there was at least one member here who favored that quite a bit.

Where's this from? I wonder if they ship internationally...

Would rather not butcher my k701s (i'll probably sell them if the k501s really benefit from the pad swap)

k501 mids richness with k701 fuller body? *drool*

Seems that way, doesn't it. I bought mine in a previous round of 501 love.

If this is indeed just a FOTM cycle, you'll be seeing them pop up in the for sale forum, but I'm guessing that with the high praise and low cost, it will be hard to find a pair anytime soon for someone wanting to jump on the bandwagon.

Now I just need to get those 701 pads to see if I agree with the sonic improvement. If so, the SR225s will be up for sale soon.

You can probably get them from the AKG distributor in your country. The pads just twist off so you won't butcher anything to give it a try if you already have both.

I bought a pair last month off of eBay for $90. They were listed as used but they look new. I burned them in for 11 straight days when I was on vacation, but I still like the K500 better.

I called AKG today using this #:

Service information and quotations:
akgusaservice@harman.com
Phone: +1 818 920-3212

Perhaps, I should have used the following # but the first one worked.

Spare parts:
Frank Rodriguez
frodrigu@harman.com
Phone: +1 818 920-3279

I was told they’re in stock so I ordered 2 sets @ $78 incl. tax/ship.

I have 2 pairs of K501s. One to use and one unopened in the shipping carton -just in case.
