Will it be OK to use a pair of K1000's with a Marantz 2230 until I can afford a better amp - as long as I'm careful with the volume control?? I'll be looking for a nice valve amp soon.

Anyone have any idea how it will sound?

The source is a very heavily modded Pioneer DV-626 with modded perpetual Tech P1a/P3a

I've used the K1000's connected to the speaker output of my 50 watts per channel Proton receiver. The sound was a bit hard and the highs are harsh. It helped to be able to turn down the treble. Not ideal for long term, but you shouldn't damage the phones, and it does give you a taste of that incredible openness. I'd get tube power ASAP (and/or a new cable). I used the K-1000 with a 60 wpc Adcom GFA-535, with no problems. The vintage Marantz gear should sound very nice with that headphone.

Thx for the feedback - I've gone mad and ordered the Norh SE9 and the Stephan Audio cable - can't wait to hear it all together.

LOL, it took Limey 3 whole hours between the first post about an old vintage amp and buying a whole 'nother amp with cable upgrade.

Well, I have a marantz 2245 and it worked great with the k1000.

But nothing can top the sound of my aq1005 and the k1000.

To answer your question, your Marantz should do quite nicely in the interim. I was using the 2226 until I snagged a beautiful 1060 integrated. They both worked quite well.

Of course I'm using the Norh now...
