This is one of the few songs for which I do not have to boost the bass by EQ, thanks!

what the difference between the ham5x and the Hamr55x?

the 5x is the earlier model, has thudding bass and very recessed highs. the 55x is much superior

Well, Ive tried inquiring about the different models, as my pair seems to hit its limit fairly quick using an el cheapo amp from radioshack (as opposed to the monstrous e12 + EQing + those extra bass settings on the high end players) and heres what I got:

Hello,

There seems to be quite a bit of confusion online regarding the models of HA-MR77X available. I would like to know the date when the HAMR77X/HA-MR77X were first released for consumer use. What is a complete list of models available for the 57mm driver model of Xtreme Xplosives (HA-MR77X/HAMR77X). What are the differences between the -J and -E models, and are there any other variations available? Have the 57mm driver models had any revisions since they were first released.

Thanks for your time,
XXX

Dear Mr. XXX,

Thank you for contacting JVC Customer Care. My name is Jennifer your email care specialist. We value you as a JVC customer and appreciate the opportunity to be of assistance.

I understand you are inquiring about the HA-MR77X.

The HA-MR77X were released in 2014 and continued to be in the market. This model is the only one available in this style with a 57mm driver. What’s replaced it is the HA-MR60X which has a 50mm driver. Other models similar are the HA-M55X (50mm driver). You can see the link below to our website which shows the available headphones.

This information seems to be conflicting with JVC's amazon store. There's a model available on JVCs amazon store with model number HAMR77X (no dash in model number) and amazon states that this product has been available on amazon since March 27, 2013. It also claims that it is a discontinued model in the product title. Visit this link and scroll down (or Ctrl+f and type "Product details") to see what I'm talking about:

Also what are the differences in the HA-MR77X-J and the HA-MR77X-E?

You said that the HA-MR60X replaced the 77X? Are they supposed to have better bass output? As this is an unreleased product, all I could find is that theyre 50mm drivers instead of 57mm. Are they an upgrade from the 77X? Also, is there any way I can get some specifications for the 60X (the good technical stuff)?

NOT IN EMAIL:
I tried to get some extra specs for everyone and failed horribly. Sorry guys... ):

Thanks,

Dear Mr. XXX,

Thank you for contacting JVC Customer Care. My name is Jennifer your email care specialist. We value you as a JVC customer and appreciate the opportunity to be of assistance.

I apologize; the HA-MR77X was released in 2013. The HAMR77X without the dash is the same model, there is no difference aside that it is missing the dash. Although it has been discontinued it is still available for purchase online through certain dealers. You can always try an online search to see who may have that specific model.

As for the E or J, I apologize that our JVC model number is just the HA-MR77X. If the store in which you are trying to purchase it from has its own letter to reference it that’s up to them. The JVC model number is just HA-MR77X.

The HA-MR60X is a 2015 model which hasn’t been released yet however we are expecting it to be out in the market within the next few months. We will not have any more information until it’s been released. The driver on it is 50mm which is a lower number as well as lower in bass. It isn’t clear why the change was made. Technically the HA-MR77X with the higher driver will have more bass.

Sincerely,
Jennifer

I tried sending this, along with images of my box, but she terminated the session and I got a DNS not resolved error upon sending:

Jennifer,

No problem on the release date. We all make mistakes. So in the JVC systems there ARE two versions, HAMR77X and HA-MR77X, but there is no difference in the physical headphones themselves. Is this correct?

As far as E or J, I personally own a pair of -J. Its on the UPC code on the box (shown in attached image). This is printed in the box, and not a sticker. I have seen images online with -E in place of -J. What is -E and -J for then if not hardware related?

Thanks,
XXX

It seems to me that the customer care employees simply search for whatever you ask them in a knowledge bass ( <----  oops, habit hahaha) and the product info is pretty limited. I might try again with another rep to see if I can get more info on the model numbers.

Haha...yep - I've worked in 'customer care' services before.
I, for obvious reasons, decided to learn as much as I could about the products (hard drives / network drives) as quickly as I could so I like...ah...knew what the hell I was talking about when I got a question.

It typically doesn't work that way - they hire cheap, fire often (turnaround is almost encouraged as long-term employees start costing too much with their 50 cent raises per year). The person you spoke to may know some things but yah they're reading from a script and when it doubt, asking around to a lot of others who are just reading from scripts. It 'may' get QA'd later and the agent coached, but by then you've been living with false info for weeks/months.

I think the only answer here is to try and get your question escalated up the chain.
Hopefully, someone, at some level, will be able to tell you something that makes sense -- or worse case, they deliberately hide facts to keep the discontinued models from rotting on shelves.

This.
I suspected something like this may be going on considering she terminated the session when I started asking too much and showed that I wasn't jut the average dumb consumer.

The discontinued model 57mm were horrible and they re-tuned a pronounced "V" into the current model which is still ****ty in the mids but the newer model hits much harder. Don't care what Mrs JVC says. i have tested then both over ear and they should have been pulled and they were

I'm still trying to figure out why I have a -J on mine (see video I posted earlier) Along with a 2012 Copyright. Yet I bought them on amazon from the link provided by this forum.
The mystery continues

@Hawaiibadboy , what do you think of me sending you these phones of mine for you to put them through the paces and put to rest this -J vs those with non-J's at the end of the model number?

I'd pay for shipping both ways to and from you.
Then I'll just hope you send em back within 30 days :)

@Hawaiibadboy , would you be interested in modifying my MR77's if I paid you?
I read that there is a mod one can do to these to get them to sound better.
While you had mine you could see if there is a difference between those of us with -J vs non-J's.

How can you tell if you have the new or older model?
I have been playing with the EQ on these, and cant quite EQ the wonky mids properly. I can make them forward, but there is something off about them. anyone would like to share their experience?

I have also been playing with the fit. i wil eventually post my findings.
