Just Starting Out - Headphones (Uplifting Trance)
Oct 6, 2014 at 9:33 PM Post #19 of 38
Greetings,

Sennheiser definitely offers some of the best quality headphones on the market for uplifting trance. I recommend the sennheiser hd 280's or 380's. Both are within your price range, and offer studio quality. However, the 380 pro's have a lower impedance, which means an ipod could handle them easier than the 280 pro's. They are both closed back, which offers a more compressed sound than an open back, and are highly regarded among studio engineers and average consumers.

*Keep in mind, these are over ear.

be careful you don't go with anything above a 70-80 ohm impedance, or you will need a portable amp to run the phones (Entirely new topic).

If you would like to gain a superior knowledge of headphones, here is a link explaining the entire science:

Wow thanks for the link! Its quite a revealing read.

I dont really use the ipod. Mainly my laptop to listen to trance online (Soundcloud/Mixcloud/Online Radio/Youtube).

Do you know the diff. between the HD 558/598 vs the HD pro series?

if you want a closed back option in the hd558 price range, I d just get the M50 (not the M50x), around $120 range M50 is not a bad option. but it is not worth over $160 imo like M50x. anyway M50 should do well with trance without any amping.

This is way too confusing! Life was quite simpler with the $20 sony headphones...

Actually a headphone store is offering the M50x's for 140 in a Sale, shall I grab those then?

Its currently M50 vs HD558 vs HD 598 vs Shure HD840 for me.

I would just go straight for the open can if you're ok with the lack of isolation

If you're looking at fun closed cans as well, the donscorpio dolphin might fit.

Oh i didn't see that you had the hd558 as well.
The hd598 and 558 are both open headphones.
If you're talking CDN, I would cross out the hd 598 and replace it with the hifiman he300 or soundmagic hp200.

HD558 mod
Some claim that the modded 558 isn't all that far from the 598.

You could probably ask for a comparison in other threads like these:
