You need to be careful buying Dick's Pick's, some have poor sound quality. Here are the ones with great SQ:

#4 2/13&14/70
#12 6/26&28/74
#14 11/30&12/2/73
#15 9/3/77
#18 2/3&5/78
#19 10/19/73
#22 2/23-24/68
#23 9/17/72
#25 5/10&11/78
#30 3/25&28/72
#31 8/4-6/74
#33 10/9-10/76
#36 9/21/72

A lot of the other DP's have serious sound /mix issues.

Thanks. This is helpful. So many volumes. Definitely want the ones with the best sound, especially if I'm paying for it.

Dark Star

but then, China Cat
but then, The Other One
but then, Eyes
but then, The Eleven....

Figured there had to be a GD thread here. I, too, have been a major collector. Got into them in college, mid-late 70's. Didn't get around to seeing them live until June '80. Collected tapes and bootleg LP's in dribs and drabs until the digital revolution hit the streets, now I have about 2,000 shows on disc, got '66-'74 pretty much covered and my collection tails off sharply after '78.

I'm with gratefulshrink, Pigpen was THE MAN, Keith had the golden keys (at least until he started nodding off at them), Brent - good, but..., Vince = Wince

My GD listening is primarily from 68-74 with the apex being '69 and '70, the Primal and Golden Age, when they were freewheeling and footloose and fresh and their music was fueled by pot and LSD, rather than the latter years of heroin and coke and addiction.

Cold Rain and Snow...the studio version. Very simple melody, yet so beautiful. Love it. I Know You Rider as well..studio version. The live versions are too drawn out and ruin the songs IMHO.

Hey sisenor, you're in Boulder, eh? I lived there for 21 years. In Crested Butte now.

I figured all you fellow Grateful Head Fi'ers would appreciate these two shots. Just acquired these beautiful Darth HF-1's from Skylab and for my initial voyage, these two recordings sent me out into deep orbit. Specifically the 2/27 Mountains of the Moon > Dark Star and 2/28 Cryptical > Dark Star. Otherworldly!!!

Dark Star crashes, pouring it's light into ashes........
