Yes, you were the first to welcome me.  I've only posted in a few threads so far.  Thanks again for the welcome.
 
Oh, and about the wallet...  Just picked up a set of DT880 pro for my first set of open/semi-open cans.  Not the priciest, but had good reviews.  The wallet is starting to feel it.  Now I am researching a good desktop DAC/AMP, tube of course, for around $400.  My B-day is in August, and I want to treat myself.

There are many suggestions for that on Head-Fi
 
Just be sure you know what type you want before hand so you don't get lead around at first. As in if you want a portable one, a desktop one. Or what functions you want it to do.
 
Personally I am eyeing a Schiit Asgard or Valhalla

I have been eyeing the Valhalla also.  I would like to hear some of the options first.  I am going to be in NYC for about a week in mid August so I am looking for a shop there that may have something I can demo.  Not a whole lot of shops in Germany that have that kind of service, or even stock much.

The Schiit amps punch well above their ticket price--can't go wrong there.  I just auditioned the Lyr with a pair of HiFiMans, and wow. When I finally get around to settling on a pair of full-sized cans--I'm looking for a set that I won't have the urge to swap after six months--I'll surely be getting that amp.

Hahaha you have already spent more money than I have on audiophile gear than I have and you have been on head-fi for less long. Actually I haven't spent ANY money on a pair of REALLY high-end headphones and I have never bought an amp before (I hope to someday buy some real nice headphones and a real nice portable amp for iPod but these things cost a LOT of money). The most money I have ever spent on a pair of headphones was $300 for a pair of Bowers & Wilkins P5's but I hadn't auditioned them long enough and actually ended up hating them and returned them 2 weeks later. After I returned them I ended up buying a pair of Incase Sonic's (at the time $200 but now the MSRP is $150) which I still own. *Sigh* I hope to one day own both the AKG K550's and the Ultrasone Signature Pro's (I'm also looking at the Bowers & Wilkins P3 headphones and hoping that they end up being better comfort and stability wise).

Yeah, I've been spending a little already.  I have a bad habbit of diving into any hobby head first.  I'm not one of those people that gets a hobby, then a new one, and another, and starts dropping them quickly either.  I do have a few hobbies, and most are expensive, but I can't play paintball anymore due to a neck injury, so this can take it's place.
 
I got the ATH M50's right now, and I am really impressed with them.  I got the DT880's coming because from all I have read, they are really detailed and flat for the price.  I'm really looking forward to hearing them.  It will probably be my last purchase until I can get out and audition some amps, and maybe some higher class phones.  I do know one thing though.  The wifey isn't so enthused with my new hobby.  She'll be even less enthused when I get home and she realizes that I can't hear her when I'm in the zone.

Yeah I'm the same way about not dropping hobbies . . . pretty much all of my hobbies I have had for my whole life (or most of it). Hahaha I hear that so much from head-fiers . . . you have no idea!
