Just how weak is the bass on the ATH-AD700

I'm agonizing over which AT model to get because I keep reading that the AD700's lack bass. How so? I mean, is it actually weak or are they just not the equivalent of subwoofers? I don't need them to make my teeth rattle but I don't want anything that sounds like it's missing something either. All I want is for them to have the "appropriate" amount of every type of sound, including bass. I think my Sennheiser PX100's have enough bass and they're small(for comparison). Can you feel music with the AD700's or are they weak? Sorry bout asking so much but I don't make enough $ to buy lots of cans so I have to get this right the first time.

The AD700 bass isn't real loud, but it does go very deep.

If anyone has heard the PX100's AND the AD700's could you please let me know if the AD700's have at least as much bass as the PX100's? It's the one detail that has me on the ropes about whether to buy them. Thanks!

Weak is only a relative term. Its has bass, and more than enough for me (not a basshead). It isn't like AD700 are missing bass - In fact, I think AD700 has good quality bass, but it isn't the emphasis of its overall sound characteristic thus give listener the idea of weak bass when compare to other punchier headphone. In some way, AD700 is more analytical than other 'phones with in the same class.

px100 bass is slightly more than the ad700 but the comfort and details of ad700 is superior

Hmm...well maybe I'll go for the a700's instead idk. Sound stage or bass.....tough call. I imagine they're both close to each other in sound.

I've heard that the AD700 and the A700 are actually quite a bit apart in terms of sound quality, the AD700 being the open model and the A700 being the closed model. I'd be careful before you buy the A700 on that assumption.

Yeah, A700 isn't as good as AD700. I will consider A900 instead..

If you are thinking about the AD700 and worried about the bass, you should consider the AD900.

Pretty much more of everything to the AD700. I really think its worth the extra $.

The A series closed phones sounds different from the AD series open phones.

I find my PX100 (older version) although seems to have more bass just sounds bloated in comparison to my AD900.

If your really worried about the bass you should get the AD900 instead if you can afford them.

Damn, my price keeps going up. Would the A900's be a good compromise? A review on audiocubes said they don't seem to lack soundstage as much as other closed phones. Plus they're $40 less than the AD900's and have better spec's(slightly) with(I assume)more bass. I don't need everything to be absolutely perfect but I'd rather not give up too much of any one aspect. In other words, I prefer phones that are great all around over phones that are absolutely perfect in some ways, really good in others, and subpar in some other way.
