Fork out the extra bucks for the SR80's. In the long run as you other equipment gets upgraded you will be happier

Since you plan on purchasing a headphone amp relatively soon, I'd go with the SR80's, you'd probably "outgrow" the 60s a lot quicker otherwise.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I think I'm going to go with the SR80's.

get some used 80's, or just jump up to 225's (on the 4sale forum here or Ebay. You can bend them, try different bowl mods or pads, whatever. When you decide to upgrade/try another line, you can sell them for what you paid.

.....or very carefully remove the ID button altogether and make them MS-1.

First i had the RS1 and GS1000, but that didn't stop me for buying the SR80 after that, and they are absolutely a lovely pair of cans. They are more used with my portable set-up , (Ipod nano and non-amped)

Currently I'm done the Grado basshead mod and this gives them a real nice sound (i'm not a fan of doing this mod om the RS1's tho)

If you are going to leave it totally stock, then get the SR80.
If you are ever going to change pads and recable, then get the SR60......because the only difference between the two are the pads and the cable. I dont think there is enough difference in the two to matter really anyway.

ignore everyone here, there is probably no EXTREMELY AUDIBLE difference between all grado cans. the difference is porbably minor between the 60/80. amped from a receiver, the 325i sounds fuller than the sr80 and less compressed, but i wouldn't justify the price differential (nearly $200).

half the people in this thread have probably only heard whatever they're recommending.
i say stick with the 60.

. . .So says a person (above) who, according to his signature, used to own $95 Grados, and has decided to replace them with $300 ones, for, apparently virtually no good reason. Ha.

I have 80s and 325s (not "i") and I think that not only are they very different, but that I prefer the 80s.

Things are a little closer in the Alessandro camp. I have both MS-1 and MS2i and they both sound quite similar. The MS2i is just a "much larger" sounding MS-1.

....yeah; and they do sound a lot better, but they still sound about the "same".

There are times though when I want to get back in the studio or up on the stage with the performers that I opt for the smaller soundstage of the MS-1.
