Sonny Rollins - sax
Clark Terry - trumpet
Thad Jones/Mel Lewis - trumpet/drums
Wynton Marsalis - trumpet
Brandford Marsalis - sax

One thing that I try to do when looking for Jazz CDs is to take look at the musicians that are performing on the CD along with the "headliner."

Great list JMT. I would throw on:

Cannonball Adderley - Sax
Bill Evans - Piano
Art Blakey - Drums

Have you had that experience where you're browsing in music store & the strange new sounds coming out of store's overhead
speakers just entrance you?
Had that with "Ah Um" by Charles Mingus.... I would say this album is a must for jazz aficionados.

I prefer Kind of Blue over Bitches Brew by miles

There's just something magical about Kind of Blue. I'm not a big Miles Davis fan but this recording is just sooo sweet.

Yes, Mingus Ah Um is audiophilegasm in both sound and performance. Mingus should be on your list.

But no, most of the time they play the most horrid crap at a popular, mainstream music store, usually at way too loud a volume to concentrate on shopping for something you may like.
