Hey guys,

Someone told me the other day that iTunes' output is equivalent to 256 kbps, no matter if the file quality of the song playing is higher. Could someone shed some light on this for me? If it is true than i will look for another player, but this will be a pain in the ***** so i'd rather not.

Thanks

It is 256 Kbps Variable Bit Rate AAC, which is better than MP3.  It is thought you can't hear any differences above that, or that most people can't.  Also it was designed to save space on your device or disk drive.

I really don't know anyone who streams higher than 320 Kbps MP3.

If you want higher you will probably have to buy the CD and rip at whatever bit rate you require.

For original poster: I don't know if that is true nor I've heard such thing. I don't think its true though, why would there be whole Apple Lossless format available if even Apple's own player wouldn't play it lossless?
