Ok so im using the HD-280 pro and im pretty happy with them but i want something with more mid bass, increased clarity (in the mids and highs) and detail. An improvement in Soundstage would be nice, but not as important as clarity and detail. My budget is $300, thanks in advance.

HD600 also seems to fit the bill, and the budget. But so's HD580. Even better yet, the 580s are closer to $100 than $300! Might be a good pair to take a closer look at!

Just do it once and never worry about upgraditis. Believe me, it's better this way. Everytime I see the 650 in the pages of Stereophile I thank myself for not getting the 600 for $50 less.

That is, until the 700 come out next year.

No customary talk about the 650/580 not shining without an amp?

Hmmmmm.....good point.

Hey; OP! Got an amp?

If not.....ever heard of Alessandros!?

........*snicker snicker* no; I'm not being totally serious, but yeah, an amp certainly would be important to the suggested Senns models.

Everyone is right, if you like the HD280 and want more of it, you are gonna love the HD650. An amp would help bigtime though. But thats always something you can get in the future.

The HD580 is great, too, for way less money than HD650, and use the rest of your budget for an amp.
Or, be a true Head-Fi'er and get both!

If you dig the Senn sound, stick with the Senn sound....HD650.

If your looking for something a little different, maybe try Beyerdynamic. DT770, DT880, DT990 can all be had for under $300. I'm really interested in these, I haven't heard them, but I hear they have plenty of bass, clarity, and soundstage.

Definitely HD650. If you are digging the Sennheiser sound signature why NOT the HD650. And the areas of improvement that you want the HD650 has in spades. Moreover, tons of people are saying that various non-dedicated headphone amps are more than capable of driving them... though I dunno how much I buy into that *hugs his amp*.
