It's been a long road, but finally... HE60

I was disspointed when I saw the thread about the flaking headband, I think Sennheiser should have made it slightly more durable considering the price I also agree that they are pretty plain looking, I mean look at the other headphones in this price range, Grado HP1, Grado PS1, Audio Technica ATH-L3000, Audio Technica ATH-W5000, even the Grado RS1 looks more appealing visually, idk maybe my opinion will change once I save up enough money for one

I can't wait to ask people to guess the relative prices of my W5000 and HE60. They sure make an interesting combo.

On the plus side, if I'm ever robbed it won't be the Baby O they'd be taking...

The HE60 is quite simply the most transparent sound I've ever heard, be it from speakers or headphones.

For the moment, yes.

The HEV70 really isn't as bad as it's demonisers make it out to be. It lacks balls, but it's frequency balance and clarity is perfectly satisfactory. I think with a better power supply it would be fine for long term use (of course, that won't stop me

).

I've got a lot of saving to do before I can afford something better. Especially if I come across another SR-Omega for auction...

In what way do you think is the Stax Omega (II) better than the HE60? Cheers!

Oh man.. once you get a new amp, it's a whole different level. It makes it sound like a whole new can (with the same signature); it was like jumping from the HD650 to the L3000 for me. Every aspect was improved, most noticeably the blackground and the soundstage (and the removal of the metallic...ism).

Lookswise, it looks sleek (I have a weak spot for all black), but I do agree that it feels a bit cheap. The flaking headband is a problem, but not when you stock up on headbands and earpads. I reckon they will flake every 2 years, so I placed an order for some more headbands.

However.. the electricity going through the cable? Never felt that!

I find the HE60 much more comfortable than the Omega II/L3000 though, since I still find Sennheiser to make the comfiest cans.

If I do sell the HE60s, it will be due to an available HE90

Not through it, I can feel the current pulsing inside the cable. It's like standing next to a power transformer.

Hmm... I can't feel that, how do you do it?

I am trying right now..

I'm rather sensitive to magnetic fields. I can't stand to be around high-voltage power lines and the like.

Are you a robot?

Anyways.. the last time I heard the Omega II I wasn't too impressed. I'm about to order one so I can do a formal A/B between the HE60 and Omega II and make it 100% sure in my mind which one I like better.

I'm not overly impressed with the OII, either.

I loth to go back to dynamic phones now.

I'm seriously considering selling my W5000s and getting a Stax 4070 for acoustically-closed use now. Anyone have a pair of these who can comment on them?

Man, I heard the SR-404 too. I preferred it over the Omega II the last time I heard them, but that was at an audio store. I don't think you can lose considering it's price (~$300 from PriceJapan!). I don't think you could go wrong with the 4070 either, considering the track record with the 404, but the 404 is tried and true
