At todays value YES. At retail value when bought NO. I have a pair of BD 770's/80 (120$) + 100$ headphone amp. My speakers are 2 bose 301 Series 2 Speakersfrom the 80's a nice onkyo tx-82 reciever and a sony cd player (nearly 1000$ spent on it in the 80s by my dad).
Yup, the total cost of my headphones and related equipment reach roughly $1500, and the cost of my bookshelf speaker system and computer speakers combined are less than $500.
Once I get my own place and begin making enough money, I'll certainly get myself a decent home theater and stereo. Right now, headphones are where it's at.
Nope, my speaker setup is considerably more.
Monitor Audio PL100's, sim audio amp, and shifted the NAD CD player and Rega table over to it from the headphone setup. I have noticed I am shifting dramatically back to loudspeakers, they just have an extra something. But I still use headphones when I need it more private and at work.
dont have speakers. If i need to watch a movie with multiple people I just grab this tiny pair of phillips cheapies my dad uses for his laptop. To get decent volumes out of them I amp them with my fateful Pico
My speakers are substantially more than my headphones in my reference listenig 2 channel stereo kit. Otherwise some of my headphones are more expensive than my speakers at work and in my home theatre.
So far I sent about $400 on headphones.
