Is Ultrasone Pro 750 > HFI 780?

Well I'm trying to ditch my Grado SR325i headphones for a pair of Pro 900's. Having owned 8 pairs of Ultrasone's so far, my experience of the &80's are that they are more suited to electronic music. They are slightly more.... alive than the 750's, but the 750's are good headphones.

The 750's are more deeper and more mature sounding than the 780's in everyday, and i miss both of them, but in the name of progress (325i, now moving onto the 900) they had to go.

The Pro 750's i consider to be my first 'real' headphones. I bought them on a total leap of faith, never having known anything about them and never having tested them. I'm glad I did.

Out of interest recently I tried the HFI range, and they are good. Yes the Pro series are better overall, but don't discount the 780's or the new 2400's.

The compass has a deliberately unneutral sound signature which might prevent you from enjoying the neutral sound of pro 750. If you get pro 750 consider ordering some free samples of popular neutral opamps.

The EQ of your entire audio chain should be as neutral as possible to derive the fullest potential and best sound from the Ultrasone Pro 750. It is completely unnecessary to use any type of DSP or any type of sound altering affectation with the Pro 750. In the past, I have found that some people who have complained about the Pro 750 have been using them with an EQ setting which was perhaps appropriate for other headphones but was very inappropriate and definitely unnecessary for the Pro 750.

Just wondering, which one is better, is Ultrasone Pro 750 > HFI 780?

It depends what you're plugging them into... If you own a fast SS amp the 780s are the way to go, bass is tight and fast and hits only when it's supposed too. If you own a Tube amp the PRO750 would suit better, they are slightly more shrill and less bassy, the tube would round them out. Now if you don't own an amp I would suggest either HFI-680, HFI-580 or there cheaper alternative Ozma 5.

I actually own both the Ozma 550 and the Proline 750. What changed my mind about this audio stuff is after listening to a pair of ozma 550, which is about 40 dollars that I paid, I realize that ozma's sound really isn't that much different from something like the sennheiser hd650, which costs like 5 or 6 x the price of ozma. That is why I decide to just stay with Proline 750.

I used to own jvc dx1000, sennheiser hd650, ath-w10vtg, akg 701...basically a lot of mid-hi end headphones, and after hearing the ozma 550, I sold all of them and stayed with proline 750.

Really it just doesn't justify the cost to buy a pair of 1000 dollar headphone, when a ozma 550 produces the same exact sound. Perhaps maybe different tonality and impact, however really it's the same sound....

That is what I think a lot of us should realize.

I agree. I used to own a $1300 rig including D2000s and sold it all when I heard the $33 JVC RX700... what is it with these little wonders?

What source/amp are you using BTW?

Audio good compass with millet hybrid amp

Is that the same thing as an Audio GD Compass and if so is there a big difference between running the headphones directly out the amp/dac than using the tube amp. If it is a hybrid amp have you tried different opamps? There is night and day difference between stock and my current opamps in my Zero.

Yes same as Audio Gd Compass. There is a big difference between running the headphones directly out the amp/dac than using the tube amp, I preferred most of my headphones with the hybrid amp. I haven't tried different opamps yet, I'm newbie to opamps stuff, do give me some advice as to how to change them.

Well my stock opamps are loud and flat, my current config is much quieter and textured... the difference being if I had only heard the stock Zero I would be disappointed. Switching them out is as easy as locating them and pulling them out, there like tiny CPUs. Earth, Sun and Moon are popular ones and will cost around $20-$40, LT1364 and the likes are free from Linear Technology - Linear Home Page - Just request a sample!
