Has anybody heard the latest Tom Petty album, Highway Companion? I am considering it. I like the older Tom Petty stuff, and I even have the Playback box set.
I read the reviews at Amazon and they seemed positive. I was just wondering if anyone here has anything to add.

This is news to me, Pauly. Thanks!

The Playback box set is essential Petty. It pretty much cover the gamit.

The Amazon review comments really were quite good. I've ordered a copy. Jeff Lynne as the producer was the clincher.

Funny, I didn't realize that The Who have a new albulm out (or I guess it's an EP). Just Pete and Roger, called "Wire and Glass". The Amazon reviews were not so nice. I passed on this one.

Good album with some very catchy tunes, but the recording quality seems to be a bit "hot". It's so bright sounding that it's hard to listen to through my Grados or Ultrasones, and Petty's voice seems to sound digitized & harsh at times. I'm listening to the original cd ripped to FLAC..

Thanks! And to everyone else who commented. I was just in B&N and they were playing it and I wanted to know about recording quality (I guesss Petty will always "play" Petty, won't he?). Still, I like him but

I got it about two weeks ago. Listenable, maybe even refined, but not exciting. You won't be disappointed, but you will want to pull out "Damn the Torpedoes" or "Southern Accents". Or try "Songlines" by the Derek Trucks Band.

I guess I will have to get it. Petty is one of the very few that I actually like doing mid tempo and slow music. I think most of my favorite Petty songs are ones that weren't all that popular anyway. So I should like this album just fine.
Thanks for all the input, and the links.
With my hearing losses, a hot recording may not be an issue.

I've listened to it twice since I got it, both times in the car...which doesn't put me in much of a position to judge the SQ. It's a pretty good album...it rates as a keeper in my collection.
