I love this player but it seems that I need to find another model due to its discontinuation. I only need superb cd sound and it doesn't have to play MP3. Has Sony bettered it in cd quality only?

Although it has MP3 and ATRAC capability, I find the Sony D-NE10 to be a superior player for CD-only playback as well -- the best I've heard since the heyday of classic PCDP (around 1990-1992). It think it much better than the Sony D-EJ1000 and the D-EJ2000.

Certain vintage players such as the Denon DCP-150 and the Sony D-555 offer better overall sound but at the expense of portability, skip protection, and playing time.

To me the DN-E10 has clearer high frequencies and more detail. The bass is better controlled -- even when boosted. I own the D-555, D-EJ1000, D-EJ2000, and D-NE10.

Yes, it has digital out, as does the EJ2000. I recently found an EJ 2000 as I was looking for digital out to light-pipe into a DAC.

Edit: I chose the EJ2000 primarily because on the D-NE10 you cannot use digital out and the remote at the same time.

hey Paul,
thanks for all your help on the Sony players. Would you describe the sound quality of the d-ne10 a considerable step up from the dej2000? I just got a pair of the Etymotics which sound great with the 2000 and hopefully even better with the dne10.

After. In my listening the improved sound of the D-EJ2000 after the cap mod is not as good as the stock D-NE10.

The controls on the player are on the bottom of the D-NE10.
