On a very tight budget, looking for a cheap sound card to improve the onboard audio I have on my PC at the moment. I know the chaintech was highly regarded when it first came out and was just wondering whether it still represents value for money in 2010.
 
I am buying it at £23, could I do better for around that price?

The AV-710 was used mainly by many for digital output to external gear.

It also had a decent DAC on the "rear channel output".
 
As for digital output, it's based on the VIA Envy24 chipset, so it offers inexpensive bit-perfect digital output.

Just as Angel said it provides inexpensive bit perfect S/Pdif output for people using an external DAC.  I was a reasonable card in itls day but is quite dated.  You may want to look at something a little newer for compatibility sake.
