Is the Aeon #padgate finally coming to an end?

So would I be wasting money by getting new ones? I don't want the same issue happening again. I can't afford to keep buying new pads.

Frankly I think you would be if you were replacing them just to fix the deformation issue.

They seem exactly the same as the ones that came with my 2 year old Noires.

I have thought of getting the Dekoni version. I have Dekoni pads for my Sennheiser HD6 series and they are way better than the stock pads. So I am curious about the Dekoni Aeon pads.

I probably had bad luck with the specific set of Dekoni Aeon pads I bought a few years ago for my older Aeon Flow Open but they didn't fit properly, the base was a bit big and didn't fit inside the recess fully.

I would hope that was / is not a widespread issue.

some of the reviews on the Dekoni site have said that. But maybe they have fixed that issue by now.

One would certainly hope so if it was not an isolated complaint.

I just had a look at the Dekoni site and for "glamour shots" the Aeon pads look pretty badly shaped from new, be interesting to know how they stand up over time.

What do you mean by badly shaped?

They just look a bit roughly shaped around the edges, not crisp and sharp, but that is just my opinion and they might hold up fine with use.

yeah perhaps true. I'm just not sure which one I would get for the Noire.

Read the first post in this thread! Dekoni Aeon replacement pads are way worse. They also make you pay for shipping for returns.

Yeah, this is why I personally don't recommend the Aeons anymore, and why it's so important that new buyers know about the pad issue and the free replacements.

Even if you can get the warranty free pads it's still a hassle to replace. It's weird DCA support won't comment if they are shipping the updated pads given Dan's public statement in the first post of this thread.

His other headphones like the Ether don't have this issue, and others claim the Expanse etc, even though the same shape, don't have this issue. But all the Aeon models have it.

Well I can't get replacement under warranty so I would have to pay for them. I do really like how the Noire sounds so I am hesitant to simply sell them because of this issue.

I did not find them very difficult to replace. Just peel it off and stick on the new ones carefully. Was not too difficult to align and if you don't get it just right, you can lift off and try again. Only took me a few minutes.

Out of curiosity, did you ever get a free pair of pads from DCA under warranty? I bought mine in 2020 so not under warranty (as I said, had no issues paying after over 2 1/2 years of use with the original pads). I also ordered the filter pack at the same time since the Noire did not ship with the 1 notch white filters originally (only shipped with 3 filters when I bought mins). I currently use the 1 notch white + black felt filter and am very happy with the results.

In my experience I haven't had issues with sound from twisted foam inside the pads. Have you tried to reshape yours? It's basically a square doughnut of foam inside a fabric tube. I would rather not have to faff around with the pads at all but I have been able to reshape them with little enough effort to not bother buying new ones.

I have barely used mine, and the pads are already beginning to be misshapen. For people using theirs a lot, I wonder how often they will have to buy pads.

Do you store them in the case with the foam brick so they don't compress?
Yes, and this didn't matter when I had the Aeon 2s as well. The Noire is no different in this regard. I agree with Audioandy above, I can never recommend the Aeon line to anyone due to these issues. I'd love to sell mine but I think I would feel terrible saddling someone with this issue. I have been waiting for a real fix, a new set of pads from Dekoni or DCA to fix the issue instead but I feel as though that time has passed. Would love to hear otherwise though.
