For 30 bucks, You may have to settle for Koss KSC75. I have the sennheiser 201 and I am not too impressed either.

My recent purchase was Panasonic RP-HTX7 @ amazon for about 40 bucks. Sounds and isolates much better than the Senns.

This may be on personal preference, but the HD202, to me, sounds far better than the HD201. The 201 sounds too bright. The 202 is much more flatter.

Another good choice is the Koss UR21--putting them on though is weird at first because they go on diaganolly, or across. Putting them on normally makes them sound horrid.

Really there aren't many good sounding "full sized" headphones under $50, but those two are my favorites.

If you are willing to spend something like $50-$100, look at the HD280-Pros by Sennheiser. They are killer!

I don't know why everyone keeps mentioning the KSC-75 like head-fi zombies: the guy wants circumaural. This is why I mentioned the two headphones I listed above: the UR-40 has the KSC drivers in a nice circumaural package, and the QP55x are actually much better headphones, but also cheap right now.

But ath has a very good point mentioning those panasonics. For a cheap closed headphone, they are probably the easy winner here; HP460, K81dj, HD202, and HD212 aren't circumaural, are generally more expensive, and probably don't outperform the Panasonic; something like a V6 or HD205 are circumaural but are still more expensive, and the HD201 is simply outclassed. The Panasonic also looks good. It may be the best choice for the OP.

I highly recommend the HD201, they do what they're designed to do, be a solid, low cost, isolating 'phone. I use them at work straight out of an onboard sound card, and really enjoy it. Of course it doesn't come anywhere near my home setup, but hey, I can't find any glaring flaws, and the music still flows!

I guess this will settle some things. The HD202 and HD201 ranges came from Headroom, the Koss UR21 I did myself through Rhintek.

The HD202s are bass heavy, and a little unclear. The HD201 is neutrl in the beginning but sounds slightly bright. The UR21 is the most flat, with fair bass and good clarity, but still has a peak in the 2k-4k mids.

I'd prefer the Koss or HD202, but its your choice. In other aspects the HD202 you just wear normaly, the UR21 you have to wear closer to your forehead so the cups seal on your ears. Otherwise they sound completely bassless.
