Is it me or do pk3's have a grado sound to them?

Recently I have been listening to my pk3's waiting for my 325i's to come in and I realized that these sound a lot like grados. What does everyone else think?

I have Pk1s and have not tried Pk3s. But I am a Grado fan and I also like the Yuins a lot. I wouldn't say they sound alike, but I would say both cater to my preferences.

I was listening to some G.love today and on some songs I swear the drums sounded just like my grado sr80's.

Are you making fun of me or are there such a thing as donut foams?I think I need a grado fix. BAD.

Donut foam on PK1/2/3 is like quarter mod on Grado flat pad - basically you just punch a hole on the normal foam pad.

PK3 does sound a bit like Grado, fast and forward, but perhaps with better soundstage. PK1/2 sound more like Senn than Grado IMO.

If they didn't make the percussion sound "off" and hollow, then I'd get a Yuin earbud....

You mean PK3s or any Yuin? I don't find the percussion sounding off on the PK1, or the PK3s. But the latter could be not to everyone's taste. However, the PK1s sound fantastic to me, no percussion problems.

I love the percussion. It sounds lively and snappy. The soundstage on my pk3's is better than my grados too. They do remind me of grados but do not sound exactly like them. Either way I am really growing to like these more and more.

Not that I know of.

A donut foam is just a regular foam with holes on both side (instead of just one side). PK1/2 come with both donut and regular foams in default.

You can get plain old gray ear bud pads on ebay for like $2 for a dozen. I got some (try searching for iBud pads or covers) for like $2.25. They aren't very thick, like the Radio Shack pads, but they work for me. Belkin and others sell them in colors, etc.

The album by G.love called philadeplphonics is recorded so good my pk3's really have the highs like a grado and the drums have that grado sound. Not every album sounds this good though. Darn it.

The Yuins and Grados share a very dynamic sound. Drums sound fantastic and snappy, and the midrange on them is very nice too. However I think the Yuins are generally a bit more laid back in the upper mids than the Grados.
