pub,
well, i actually own the cambridge audio D300 (non-SE).
but i used to have the AMC CD8B. i sold the AMC long before i bought the cambridge, so i'm going on memory here . . .
the AMC is brighter and a bit thin. good detail, but it can be harsh on harsh recordings. it pretty much sounds like most CDP's out there.
ah, the cambridge sounds totally different. it has that english sound. very, very, very smooth with a recessed upper-midrange and great bass. no harshness--even on harsh cd's. but the detail doesn't really come through quite like on the AMC.
the D300's soundstage is much wider than the AMC CD8B.
i think classical and jazz are best suited for the AMC. rock for the cambridge.
as you can tell, i like the cambridge better.
hope this helps,
arnett
