I'd like to choose D500 cause I can not afford a CD player just like DENNON DCD-S10III, XA7ES, or something...

Frankly...I'm a beginner

Official Introduction:
An exceptionally high quality Delta-Sigma DAC from Crystal with a precision voltage reference gives the D500 its stunning level of performance; chosen for nothing less than its highly musical and involving sound, after hundreds of hours of intensive auditioning. The product is further enhanced by regulated power supplies for both digital and analogue circuits, a high stability clock and numerous dual-mono topologies. Our implementation of proprietary jitter reduction circuitry - a major breakthrough - has also allowed us to achieve an incredibly low level of jitter-induced distortion, surpassing many so-called "hi-end" players. Both optical and coaxial digital outputs are also provided, for easy to connection to other digital devices.

Frequency Response 4Hz - 20kHz (-0.5 dB)
Harmonic distortion (total) 0.01% @ 1kHz
Signal to Noise Ratio Better than 110dB
Dynamic Range Better than 96dB
Channel Separation Better than 95dB
Jitter Better than 180pS (Weighted)
Audio output 2.4V RMS
Digital out (optical) S/PDIF Toslink standard
Digital out (BNC) S/PDIF 75ohms
Dimensions (mm) 80(h) x 430(w) x 300(d)
...
Grateful for your help
Sincerely PUB
Hoping for your reply

Pub, The D500 is a very nice CD-player. Combine it with a pair of interconnects and a descent amp, plug in your HD600 and you'll have a great system!

I agree with wab. I'm using the d500se with 580s. I recommend the silver faceplate, though.

I've heard some bad things about that knob used to change tracks. Do you guys ever have a problem with it?

Neruda-

What exactly have you heard? I can't say I'm a huge fan of it, but I don't think it's a deal breaker by any stretch.

I've just heard comments about it being flimsly or annoying compared to other controls. probably not a big deal.

I owned one for a little while but had problems with the display (it was a demo item) and I wound up returning it.
It did sound very good though. Smooth treble.
I used MIT2 ICs and the X-cans when I auditioned it.
I have since sold my x-cans.

I'm using a D500SE with HD600's and like it very, much. The knob is O.K. It would'nt be my first choice for a design. I usually use the remote.

I've had the D500 for a year now. I've auditioned other CDPs from Rega and Rotel and although they do offer an improvement, the D500 is still a beaut for it's price. When I first got the D500 I was amazed at how much better it sounded than my PCDP and DVD player (Pioneer 434). The sound was smooth and neutral. In my opinion, it was more of an upgrade than when I got my first amp.

FYI, I've tried the Denon 370 that this forum made famous. To me, the D500 is far superior.

The D500 is no longer available in Denmark, only the D500SE... any noteworthy difference in sound?
From what I've read it should be better that the original (I guess that goes without saying)...

How does it compare to the cheaper cd6000ose?

I'd also like to know how it compares to the Marantz. Anybody?

I'll 2nd or 3rd or 4th or whatever we're up to now the positive feedback regarding the CA CD500 SE. Fantastic player for the price. I listen to mine at work several hours a day with HD-600s. I'm not sure what is special about the Special Edition (SE), but it sure does do the job. I haven't compared it to the non-SE version, however.

As far as the knob goes... Annoying: yes, a little; Flimsey: no, not at all.

Brian.
