Is anyone regretting getting a refurbished ipod yet?

This is my fourth refurb iPod (I've bought a 1G, 3G, 4G and now a 5G refurb'ed iPod) and I have no complaints about any of them. In fact I've had friends who bought new iPods that had many problems while I have had none. Don't consider it a 'refurb' iPod, consider it a 'debuged' iPod.

I don't want to beat a dead horse, but along with the price drop on the refurb 5.0 iPod was the removal of the refurb 4th gen iPod.

I truly believe a lot of people will be getting a brand new iPods.

No average consumer looking for a DAP is going to avoid getting an iPod, they need strong incentive to look else where. Anywho, I'm rambling...should I wait and see how the rest of the market reacts to the new iPods or break down and grab the 60GB refurb video? I'd probably hold out until the holiday season before getting something, is that Sigmatel chipset acquired from Rio ever going to be put into anything?

Yup, Apple did a smart job again. I'm sure Scandisc Sansa or Creative can match the prices though. As for iRiver, Samsung and Cowon, lower pricing for those companies is more difficult (must be the Korean cost of living). Apple still has the market edge. These days, the iPod name is sweet sounding to the average joe. And the new price tags makes it more convinient to own. The two major buying factors for a regular consumer shopping for an mp3 player are: price and storage capacity. Battery life and form factors are secondary. Then there's the iPod name. With that said, I won't be surprised if the market sales of the 30gig ipod and the colored nanos will boost market sales once again. I can also picture lots of elementary school kids and the jogging public with those small shuffles.

For your Sigmatel questin, I'm not so sure but I think I've read somewhere here that the Samsung Z5 are using the Sigmatel chipset, though different numbering yet has the equivalent (or better) sq utilized in the older shuffle.

I have a terrible problem with my 3g refurb - it's still working perfectly, so I have no excuse to get one of the new, thinner models. I'm going to wait until an iPod that has custom EQ before I invest in anything else, since I haven't noticed any changes in SQ.

I am very pleased with the purchase of my 60GB refurb. Now I'll wait a bit to see if the Nano prices come down, or perhaps just get a Shuffle. The prices on the refurbs are so good, I'm thinking of getting another!

But I won't. I did notice that the refurbed black 60GB are not available (for now at least). Still, I can't believe some of the prices people are seeking on the FS board. I guess the second-hand market will rebound once the refurbs are gone.

yeah i just checked today and noticed that the Black 60GB 5Gs are gone now. Makes me a little more confident in my decision to splurge on one!

Now I'm just compulsively checking Fedex's site every 10 minutes for my shipping status (which hasn't changed since 4am on the 19th)...

lol, I'm kinda regretting not getting black, but I thought the possibility of showing more scratches would drive me crazy.

i'm on my second refurb.

i brushed the back of my first ipod. it was a 4G 20 gig monochrome. but then the hard drive failed probably because i tried to keep huge files on places i shouldn't...so hats off to apple for my stupid mistake.

then my replacement came. it looked brand new but its hard drive got messed up again...why? i don't know. so i thought i would have to replace it and buy the newest ipod (ipod photo at the time) and brought it to the apple store. the apple "genius" said my ipod was probably still under warranty and replaced it with a refurb 20gig monochrome.

so hats off to apple and their refurbs!

oh yeah, i really like monochrome...

Woah, they still have monochrome 20GB iPods stored in back?

Jebus, well, schoolmates who had their iPod minis fail on them recently got iPod minis back right from the Genius Bar. I wonder what exactly they keep back there.

I sold my 60gb 5g ($250 on ebay) in anticipation of the new releases (hoping for 100gb) and becaue I had a 4g on the way to redwine. Now I realize I want one in my car. When I saw the black ones sold out, I decided I better pull the trigger on this great price. I actually made a profit on the deal- about 15 bucks after shipping, plus I get a new warranty- not a bad deal.
