what would be the best portable amp between an ipod and er4p. i listen mainly to hip-hop, jazz, and oldies if you're wondering.

there is NO "best" amp. there are highly rated amps out there, but your budget is key.

Examples in ~$200-300 range:

you're going to have to read about various amps and see what seems "best" to you. depends on what your priorities are: battery life, size, options (e.g. switches on the Supermacro such as bass boost and the ER-4P to 4S switch).

After four years of using ER4s with a variety of amps and sources, I have no problem recommending Xin's SuperMini or SuperMacro-3 V6 for use with iPods. I don't think there's a better choice for Etys. I particularly like the Mini. I Velcro mine directly to my 5g 60 (waiting for the Agent 18 to ship) which makes for a very tidy package.
