What should I be using in between these?
Are there any amp/dacs that are regarded as "the best" with the JH 11s? 
Do I need a DAC?

what medial player supports flac? i know there is a vlc player, but if i remember correctly, it was terrible.

There's also support built-in to iDevices for Apple Lossless (ALAC).  Easy enough to convert with dbPowerAmp or XLD.

VLC works...not to great of an app though. you will need to ssh into the phone to add the files.

i ripped my CDs via itunes into aiff or alac (just go to preference and change the codec to either alac or aiff), then sync to iphone 4. i recommend that you use LOD and have an amp to go with your JH though

I also tried openstreamer which is vlc4iphone's new name , but it crashes everytime i try to open flac files.
very frustrating
