Did your friend say how they are inferior? 
 
When I receive mine, I will post my opinion compared to my HS2. May be a while, though, because the shipping time may be 2 or 3 weeks.

I would be very interested in your opinion about this device...
I would like to have something reliable to make my own a/b comparison tests, and because the fiio is not easily available, it seems this device is the way to go (providing it's of good build quality)

How is humming a problem for something like this?

Isn't this literally 4 headphone jacks, 12 short wires, a dial, and 2 output jacks, 6 short wires? 3 wires per jack (left/right/ground)

It would seem that it's impossible for such a passive device to introduce any "humming," but perhaps it acts as an antenna, picking up WiFi or Bluetooth or ...

I've just bought one with the 2 cables that have 1/4" jacks and it shall arrive within a few days.
