Introducing Unique Melody MEST·Jet Black

Mar 26, 2025 at 4:10 AM Post #196 of 217
Having just heard MM and Mest Jet Black last weekend, I find MJB a very good proposition at 1,7K. The stage is very large, in particular with divinus wide bore tips, I'd say it's close to MM, the instrument separation is more noticeable in MJB, but the MM has better timbre and an overall smoother presentation. For me, MJB has better bass than MM.
I'll try different cables to see if I can warm MJB up a bit.
Try them with Final Fusion G or Canal Works Gel Filled eartips if you have them. Those two really improve the bass on my mest 2, currently using the Final Fusion G on the maven 2.

'Better bass' how?
Also how much larger is the stage compared to the MM?

No, the stage is larger on MM, but the MJB gets close to it.
There is more bass quantity on the MJB and a more textured mid bass, with a sub-woofer like sub bass, in particular when amp-ed. MM sounded a bit warmer than MJB and has more velvety notes. I don't have them on hand for side by side comparison, though.

I have listened a bit back and forth with my Jet Black and Craft Ears Omnium.

Jet Black has a bigger soundstage. Depth is about the same. Bass has better texture on the Jet Black and they have a bit more midbass and better balanced bass overall but Subbass is way better on the Omnium. Seems to reach almost endlessly low.

Mids are almost exactly the same. Vocals are a tiny bit spicier maybe on Jet Black.

Treble is more detailed on the Omnium. Best highs on an iem that I have ever heard. Never harsh. Jet Black is too soft sometimes on cymbals and other things.

Overall I would rate the Omnium as superior. At least at this moment.

Both are custom fit. Both fit perfectly but Jet Black is more comfortable. They isolate about the same. Jet Black comes with a better built cable. Its really nice.

Just tried the MM and the bass definitely slams I didn’t spend much time with it but the bass definitely good better than Mest mk2. I don’t think it improves a whole lot from the Mest mk2 beside the bass and shells are very huge.

I personally liked the VE10 from all of the iems I tried.

It does improve vocals and stage, slight detail but it was a quick demo I’ll go again today. it’s in the level of RN6 and the VE10 all three iems are fire. Mest mk2 still good but more sub bassy and MM is more mid bassy.

MM shells are huuuuuuuuuge and there is a driver flex I only experienced with Fai wan, MM, and the EVO.

For the price I think there are better options but depending on what you like I’d say focus on the sound quality and signature you going after because they differ slightly.

Tips make a big difference on the JB for me too. Eletech baroque and velvet wide sound very similar, wide stage that maintains clean edges and retains note weight. The spinfit w1s make the JBs darker, and compresses the stage a bit too much for me.
Have seen more metal core tips lately, anyone tried?

I found that tws tips are the best for mk3. Such as Eletech baroque tws (L) and SpinFit CP1025 (L) as it requires a better fit of the earphone to the ear

Wow what made Vision Ears 10 so special that wowed you the most of them all, better stage and dynamics than MM?
All had good stage, slam, and dynamics the MM, RN6, and VE10. I can’t tell you much about the MM as I need more time but it sounded really good with the vocals, the bass was fine. VE10 is the closest thing that I liked to RN6 because it has great mids and vocals and bass was fantastic also it was very easy to drive build quality is amazing and nice cable.

Remember my test case with these iems is limited with the same source which is the Hiby R8ii and the tips is the Spinfit cp100. Some iems I can tell you for sure why liked them like the Fugaku and, some I will tell you only sounded really good for what I’m used to like the Alter ago. Aldo, have limited time with each set and I do a lot of back and forth with RN6 to benchmark.

I’ll list the iems in batches and let you know what I liked most about them.

1-First batch Jaben store

Legend EVO
it has a driver flex build quality is not that great. It has good bass and you can feel it vibrate into your ears but for 3k it’s so muddy and not resolving enough.

XE6 universal super engaging sound signature mid bass slam verb hard amazing treble extension and still amazing resolution dynamic thick note weight. and it’s my favorite iem I own a CIEM.

RN6 universal sounds very good comparing to CIEM
Canpur cp 622b disappointing and not impressed, very hyped.

Fugaku very very huge soundstage the biggest I heard in an iem very wide and had amazing depth, the highs are super engaging the best highs I heard in an iem you can actually feel it in your soul and can tell instantly it’s better than other iems, details and dynamics are on a next level, bass is good but it feels lacking because of everything else going on, it doesn’t seem in proportion with the rest of the tuning but that’s my take on it. You can fell the texture of the treble that energizer box doing great job for the highs.

KR5 sounds like the front tier series from Fir audio but from the quick session it’s closer to RN6 than XE6 has good bass and dynamic imaging capabilities not as competent as RN6.

2-second batch AV ONE audio store.

Fai wan
forgettable not impressed.

Novus very good mid bass slams but I like XE6 better overall.

VE10 build quality is amazing very easy to drive great mids, bass slams hard, also good stage and dynamic great timbre overall and it’s close to RN6. I like it a lot sadly it will be disappointing soon.

MM amazing details, bass slams hard, good vocals maybe I need more time with it and it sounded competent with RN6, and VE10.

Volür didn’t like it very soft not enough impact also disappointed.

Second day

1-First batch Fatfreq

SM
crazy bass rumples for day treble is amazing but overall I prefer the Deuce as an all rounder.

MSE didnt like it and its not on the same level of the GM.

Quantum quality is good but flat response and reference like tuning great stage.

GM amazing amazing amazing iem treble is very well tuned and extended, instrument separation and layering is fantastic, addictive sub-bass very impressive sounding iem I’m actually considering getting a custom as the fit is slightly too big for me.

GMA build quality and fit is better than GM and does everything that the GM does well but it’s shouty via its upper-midrange and couldn’t get over it, will demo it more today. GMA has probably better technicalities overall than GM and fits much better but GM is more smooth.

2-Second batch the hangout

Origin bass is very good wide stage and it’s more resolving than Deuce but Deuce slams harder.
Valhalla flat resounds great stage but disappointing performance overall.

3- third batch Zeppelin

Singularity
didn’t like
Helios didn’t like
Annihilator 23 treble is amazing and never harsh but that’s it nothing else going on.

Legion absolutely fanatic iem and completely worth the money very very good engaging sound signature, the only bone conduction that I can consistently feel and it vibrates into your ears in your face sound signature very energetic amazing highs and bass and I’m definitely impressed and I’m going to get one absolutely worth the money. Build quality is amazing and it needs more hype.
Moses need more time

Ext mk2 fit is stupid and it sounded ok.

Alter ago: need more time but very laid back amazing timbre more resolving than legion and better technicalities maybe worth investing time in it.

Duality I remember not being impressed.

DX340 sounded more laidback than the R8ii and I like it for that but I need more time with it.

To sum it all up

I have not watched reviews for all of them besides RN6 XE6, GM. those are my own impressions for the most part, also I don’t know the driver configuration for all of them.

XE6 universal is amazing I like it more than custom.

Fugaku is great but too expensive and has a huge energizer that needs to be connected

VE10 is amazing

MM need more time. Plus shells are huge. difficult fit with stock tips.

GM is the tits

GMA would have been the tits but it’s shouty and I need more time will go back again today or tomorrow for it.

Flip ears legion is amazing I’m getting one soon.

Alter ego sounds amazing too and more resolving than legion and more relaxed both are energetic.

Today I’ll go demo the astrolith, and Clara in a place called ConnectIT

That’s a solid lineup of impressions! Legion and VE10 sound like absolute standouts, and XE6’s engaging signature always delivers. Fugaku’s staging and treble texture seem unreal, though that energizer setup is definitely a commitment. On the Fatfreq side, GM’s smooth, addictive tuning and GMA’s technical edge make them hard to ignore—definitely interesting how they stack up against everything else. Looking forward to your thoughts on Astrolith and Clara!

Hey 👋🏾

Thank you for the feedback I appreciate it.

So I was able to demo astrolith yesterday and a whole lot of other TOTL iems, but couldn’t find the Clara anywhere no store has it anywhere in Singapore. Hopefully I’ll able to demo the Clara, and The Omega at CanJam Singapore this weekend.

Essentially, Astrolith sound really really good amazing mid bass it slams really hard, vocals are centered and nice highs are not harsh. I do think it’s better than a lot of iems that I tried at this point I demoed about 25 TOTL iems give or take and Astrolith stands out and it producs better sound quality than iems that are double the price like the Macbeth, and Trifecta, imho and some other iems also.

Despite all of this I don’t think Astrolith is for me specifically the mids are not to my likings and it has too much mid-bass for what I’m looking for currently.

IMG_3382.jpeg

IMG_3370.jpeg

I tried the Storm, and does everything very well but veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery hard to drive I was going 90, 95 volume on both RS8 and R8ii, and R6P2 maximum volume still couldn’t drive it. I think the storm needs much powerful amplification like desktop level. Probably it has the best timbre in the iem game.
IMG_3401.jpeg

IMG_3396.jpeg

From the iems I tried at the AV one store, VE10 is nice but I like the Mentor better it sounds very holographic, detailed, slams hard but clean mid bass never bleeds and it feels in a different dimension than the rest of FR. I also, think the Mentor sounds better than the Mason which double the price.

IMG_3450.png

For Fatfreq iems went ahead and demoed GMA and, GM again today and was A/B them very hard back and forth for almost 3 hours.

GMA has much more refined highs or treble than GM and it’s able to pull slightly more details than GM. Through the mids GM feels more congested the bass bleeds a little or it feels in the middle of everything whereas the GMA is able to separate things much better where the bass seems in a different dimension than the vocals and the smaller details within the music.

GMA does slam very hard but it’s more of a clean slam than GM but that doesn’t mean GM is muddy but GMA finds further refinement than GM and it does benefit from the new custom DD and how they tuned the acoustic chamber to give a harder slamming bass but still separated from the rest of the FR.

IMG_3330.jpeg

I also, demoed two cute iems from the USA 🇺🇸 they are called the Sonora, and Volta this house brand called Plussound and it’s new to me didn’t know about them before, I saw them at Zeppelin store. Sonora was going for warm and engaging sound, Volta was more high resolution big dynamic stage, I didn’t spend quality time with them tho, and they were recommended to me by a cool worker at the zeppelin store.

IMG_3408.jpeg

I’d let you know if I end trying Clara or the Omega.

This is just awesome!! Thank you so much for taking the time to break all of these IEMs down and drop the info here! I’ve been very curious about the GMA…I just got the Aurora XXIV…and have the Legion ordered…so won’t be chasing the GMA at this point, but it does sound compelling the way you’ve described it.
