Introducing Lotoo PAW Gold

I really wanted to like the Lotoo PAW Gold, and it was on my to-buy list just based on the build quality alone.

Going into the audition, I had high hopes that the LPG would be slightly behind the TP in terms of being resolving and musically involving at the same time.

The IEM used for the audition had an euphonic bias: Noble Audio K10 Universal with Wagnus Sieve Sheep cable.

At the end of the audition after doing A/B comparisons on the same few tracks, I found the LPG still lacking in that "X" factor that makes the TP so special.

I spend today with Calyx M, Lotoo and O2. It was a fun day, long but fun. I have been meaning to do this for along time but never had the change to do it with enough patience, or lets say everytime I did music got in the way and I didn't want to ruin the moment.

Aim was to see why I enjoyed the sound of calyx M more and the only way I could get to hear the DAC on each DAP was to try to volume match it and than feed it to O2.
It was not easy and I am certain i was not able to do it but I tried.

Caly M as a stand alone DAP in large gives me more enjoyable sound but things changed when I feed the lineout of Lotoo to my O2. The gap was no where close. As I said before to my ears Lotoo lineout when feed to the right amp can challenge HUGO and in most cases keep up with it (In particular on how Lotoo deals with DSD).
Sadly this might indicates that perhaps the lotoo headphone out is a compromise in order to increase the battery life.

In large Lotoo pairs nicely with more balance armature based IEM but so does calyx perhaps even more and at half the price of lotoo perhaps it makes it a greater value but than it also has less than half the battery life of lotoo.

Thankfully the fix for Lotoo is not that expensive as O2 amp is easy on the wallet, I highly recommend it for Lotoo. Calyx M and O2 is really showed no sonic improvement just only louder sound.

Wait till you line out the PG to something like the Bakoon M or Wagnus amp. I am simply lost for words

It is still early days for me with the PG. But so far, I am liking the PG more and more. I guess at this level, it is usually a matter of personal choice

Do you mean lineout to the right amp instead of DAC?

I wasn't impressed with the PG+Bakoon 01M set-up, too harsh for my liking. I much prefer the Carot One Nik 58 paired with the PG; the tube signature adding an analog dimension to the overall sound. It's always a matter of personal preference and bias.

I've tried so many different amps, just to name some, wagnus epsilon S, 627x, arrow 4G (and atleast half a dozen more) all owned by me currently and to me if you want to listen to Lotoo O2 does the job. Most amp alter the sound but O2 remains unchanged but improves on power delivery.

That is the beauty of this hobby. We all hear things differently. Of course, the music we listen to are also different. For me, there is nothing harsh with the Bakoon amp. I love the DSD files especially. The important thing is that we all enjoy what we hear. That is all that matters.

You mean the Objective2? I've also heard many amps but not that one. I liked the 627x and thought it retains the sound signature of the DAP (with the Paw Gold, AK240 and Tera) but improves on the power delivery, like you said. Owing to my bias for analog-type sound though, I felt the 627x was adding more bulk than value.

627x has too much of a stronger character than what I like. It to be my go to amp when the gear sound bright and i want to fix it. It has a reputation of been associated with been analog sounding type of amp but I better not use that term as I have found my understanding of that term has been wrong and not till I have a proper first hand experience with analog setup I should not use it.

PG uses LME49600 has very good performance.(if they are used as opamp), there is a good balance at power section. Are there any popular amps using LME49600?

Sorry you've got me confused too. We're talking about sound or visual?
not sure how I wasn't clear, it may sound amazing but the design is truly hideous, looks like something out of a Xmas cracker. Buy hey if we all liked the same things the world would be a boring place.
