I'm getting a refund and going Headphile BlackSilver, if I can.

I've managed to solder the broken wire myself the second time it happened -- after some plug surgery.

The Headphile BlackSilver sounds quite different: less detailed and tight, but smoother, more liquid and brilliant. I like it too.

Drew at Moon Audio is working on a new Silver Dragon that will fix this problem, according to his e-mails. There is nothing wrong with the cable; I enjoyed the sound, but the intermittency problem reminded me of my 580 days and I wasn't ready to go back there.
