Thanks all for your replies. Pity about the restrictions; looks like it will be a long wait. The LP6 would be my dream DAP, but the lack of a search function is a deal-breaker (can live without streaming, connectivity etc, but with a 20K+ track library, a search function is a must). Hopefully the next generation, whenever it's released, will have a search function.
Unless you're absolutely insistent upon R2R (in which case I would understand) I'd suggest looking at the E7 which has a working search function.

Though it doesn't have quite the analogue smoothness of the LP6 it's very close, and technical performance is perhaps a tad better.

If search function is a must, have a listen to the E7. Have you heard the LP6? If you have, then you will have some basis for comparison with the E7. :)

[Cross post from the E7 thread

Folks, LP just released a new FW, E7_V1.0.5_2024.5.20.rar, through its authorised dealers today. Once updated, the E7 should be at Firmware v. 1.0.5 dated 2024.5.12.

The WeChat translated FW notes are:

1. Fixed an issue where the ID3 info character string had a newline character in front of it.
2. Added Split Track Function for SACD DISC Images
3. Optimized decoding library and decoding thread
4. Supports DST decoding.

[cross post from the the LP E7 thread}

Just wanted to share with everyone this new article that Wan and the LP team were asked questions and answers were provided. Very informative stuff. :)

http://bbs.erji.net/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=2336083&extra=page=1

In in a series of 12 questions and answers, Wan provided the answers I think we are all interested in:

  1. What is the hierarachy and scope of each series that LP currently does and how does E7 fit within the range of LP DAPs?
  2. What is the reason for the E7 adopting a modular system?
  3. Why did you choose the AKM 4497 chip as the base for the first module for the E7?
  4. What challenges did you face in developing the AKM 4497 card for the E7?
  5. What is the role of the voltage regulation function of the LPF op amp and the reason for developing this technology?
  6. What is the thinking behind the E7 being equipped with BT but not wifi or streaming?
  7. What were the design considerations behind the E7?
  8. What do you think are the advantages and future applications of the self developed non-Android OS?
  9. Why does the E7 provide 3 different tuning options, while still providing the option of EQ?
  10. Why does the E7 have fewer accessories when the trend has been towards higher prices and luxury packaging?
  11. Is there any different in the FPGA used in the E7?
  12. Compared to other companies, how is product development in LP different and unique?
By the way, do NOT despair when you click on the link and it is in Chinese. Just press translate and you will get the English (or whatever language is your default) version,

Happy reading! :)
