I have a pair of 225's sitting about 2 feet away from me right now and I love them unamped straight out of my iPod Touch 2nd Gen which is the exact same thing as your iPhone. In fact the Grado's are the only can I have ever heard that sounds "good" unamped.

as far as I know, the new 225 (non i version) sells for $150 at the local stores.
