The headphones on the right look cool
That's my before and after picture.
I swapped out the pads, painted the grills, added magnets, custom made a leather strap ...there might be other mods I'm not thinking of.

My point is, you can build yourself a set. I ordered the pads from china ($12) I had the leather strap custom cut for me at a local leather shop, I picked out a scrap of leather I liked, gave him the dimensions and he cut it for me ($3) I added backer rod to the pads to make them deeper and firmer (less than $1) and super strong magnets from china ($2?)

In my opinion, the Beyerdynamic Custom One Pros, DT-770 Pros, and DT880-pros are the best values in headphones. All are around 150-180 USD on the major websites. They all sound great for music and gaming, considering the price range.

Have you decided on closed back vs open back yet? I personally really enjoy gaming on the Custom One Pros and DT-770 Pros. Despite being closed I do find the soundstage wide enough. However, several of the highest-earning gamers have been using the DT-880 Pros recently (including Ninja).

Edit: Don't buy the 250 ohm versions. Chances are, your equipment cannot drive them to sound loud enough. Go for the 32 or 80 ohm versions.

I mean, not as good as some smoked-out-jizzed-on old Beyers, but, pretty good.
Everyone knows, BeyerDynamics are German, you have to REALLY ride them hard to break them in properly, like...do unhealthy gross stuff in them.

what do you use to paint the grills?
I just used a Sharpie on mine, I think I recall some people using a little bottle of automotive touch up paint or finger nail polish.
