Hey all
 
I listen to all types of rock, mainly listen to stuff like Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins, Tool, Mars Volta, Porcpine Tree and 90s alt rock. All in FLAC of course.
 
From my research it appears the Shure SE425 would be a good choice. I'm in the £50-150 pound bracket. Willing to go more if its REALLY worth it. The SE 535 are just ridiculously more expensive here in the UK.
 
Not sure if there is anything else I should consider?
 
Or any anyone tell me what I really need in terms of like mid ranges, treble etc?

I have the 535's and would say that if you like bass then these will be lacking. I might suggest looking in to some of the westones. Either the westone um pro 30's or 20's. I have the westone um3x's myself and they have more bass than the 535's.

I'd give a good look at the Dunu DN1000 or the Westone 3.

Shure 215 is an excellent in ear for rock based genres that has detachable cables in case you ever need to replace or upgrade one. Also it won't break the bank!

Westone UM PRO 30. You won't be disappointed. I listen to hard rock/metal and these do quite well with these genres.

now im a big shure fan but really the 425, just who told you go for them cause im sorry but no, just no.  unless you are sure of what your getting i cant see why anyone would come to the 425 as the one to go for.
 
unless youve heard a few diff things and can reallystart to aim where you want to head acousticaly then for a first real outing you want to stick to a generalist.  in your budget that means the GR07 or the DN-1000.  on the whole the 1000 is the better but both are super good value and sound great.
