Whats the difference between a High and Low impedance headphone? What would a 580 consider to be?

For example the The Mini³ Amp has a Choice of Gain of (2) for IEMs and low impedance headphones and (5) for low and high impedance headphones

Which would I pick to run both a IEM and my 580s? Really im just a college student looking to run my computer as my source and a amp/dac combo or separate for less then 250...

thanks

Only real difference in this case is that a higher impedance can is much harder to drive straight out of a portable device then a lower impedance can. I believe the iPod can efficiently drive up to 32 ohms, and it has trouble from then on. For 580's, you're going to need to have it set on 5.

A gain of 2 might not be enough to power the HD580 to their full potential, I would go with the gain of 5 version. I power my e2c and ep630 out of a Cmoy running at a gain of 5.5 and they're fine. When it was running at 11 it did have a problem with hiss.
