I really like the Sony MDR-7506.
Call me crazy.

The only thing I think they lack is a little bit of twang on the upper edge of Bass guitar.
Other than that, I love them.
$90-100 shipped

A900s are nice.

The back of the box says they have a 40 ohm impedance.

yes. ppl have reported that a900 running off crap cheap-o flea market players work just fine.

that's based off of my readings tho... dunno if its really true

At that price you won't be disappointed with an A900.

And 32 ohms is easier to drive, but any portable player is fine with 40 ohms.

Sensitivity takes a play as well, SR80's only rate at 98dB. That's actually not a bad number for portable players, but I've never owned a Zune.

If you can scrape $180ish, get the DT770/80's. They'll blow everything in and around that price range away, quality wise.

Under $100, might want to go with the KSC75's... wait, they're open. Senn HD280 Pro's too uncomfortable to recommend. Maybe Equation Audio RP-21's? (Same price as the Senn's, $100).

Just got the Eartools RP-21 they are very efficient, even with an anemic MD player. Fresh out of the box I prefer them to sony mdr 7506, which i use every week at KGNU(boulder denver community radio). I considered the sonys or the Senn hd 280 pro, but I'm amped about these. When the burn in is at least 30-40 hours I'll do a shoot out comparison

Not to sound like a jerk, but I would have thought that the SR-80 would offer alot of available juice. IMO they are usually considered one of the easier hps to drive. Although, come to think of it ,it could be there open nature thats causing your problem. (re: volume).
