Shoegaze, but be careful sometimes it can have the opposite effect.

My inclination was actually exactly the same here >.< Shoegaze has the most polar effect on me of any music. Sometimes it makes me feel fantastic... other times it just grounds me very hard. Honestly, I wouldn't really recommend it all that much from personal experience when in a poor mood.

I just wanted to say that when I was personally going through a rough time I actually found it better to listen to music that represented how I felt. I found that trying to supress things and cover-it-up with feel good tracks here and there didnt help me in the long run. So I started listening to tracks which I could relate to which really helped me get the emotions out of my system.

When I am in an upbeat mood I love to listen to trance. My fav track right now is probably
John  O'Callaghan - Find yourself

This is definitely my experience with things as well. I went through an extremely rough patch a couple of years ago, my (now ex) fiancee cheated on me and left me and I ended up in a really rough place, but depressing music actually kind of helped me out in a strange way. At the time both depressing music and uplifting music had it's place. Lately I've been getting dragged back into that place by events and the song that's been good to me is: A Girl, A Boy, And A Graveyard by Jeremy Messersmith.

One album that always puts me in a great mood is Presidents II by The Presidents of the United States of America. Legit makes me soar.

Another album that doesn't necessarily make me feel good as much as it just helps me relax on a borderline profound level is The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place by Explosions In The Sky.

Everyone experiences moods with various degrees of relative ups and downs.

People who think they are depressed are people who hold their low moods in place with their thinking. If you think you are depressed and allow for the possibility that you might feel better, then you probably will, and that will prove that your mood fluctuates just like every other innately healthy human being.

If you ever feel in a low mood, you don't need to do anything about it - low moods will pass of their own accord if you accept them and allow them to, and allowing your mind to quieten will often lead to more feelings of calm and wise insights arising.

Your thoughts create your feelings, and if you feel down, or up, you just need to realise that your current feelings were created what you were and are thinking. When you let go of the thinking that created your feelings, what you are feeling will pass naturally.

You don't have control over the thoughts that appear in your mind, and you don't need to analyse your thinking in an attempt to fix your moods. When you recognize and understand that the thoughts you have created the way you feel, you can regain present moment awareness with a renewed sense of your innate wellbeing. And that can make music sound really beautiful, too.

For me, the music from Kontrust works really well. Especially their Time To Tango album.
This song (Bomba) makes me laugh. Give their music a chance.

What might work well is La Brass Banda. Great music. Just take a listen to the song Natalie.

Nujabes in general. His music helped me a lot when I was going through a period of depression. Some of my favourite 'feel good' tracks by him:
Luv (sic) part 2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XdbJsTrDvs
Beat Laments The World - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TuvKDNOVfJk
Hikari - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2GEdPSfGP4
Who's Theme feat. MINMI - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ur7E38Qs5tA

Also, Nomak. He has a similar style to Nujabes, but his sound is still pretty unique.
Sanctuary - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oasfi6EDhqg
If I Was Peace (feat. Fat Jon) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_ckdq8EvHc
