Hey all,

I have some extra money to spend on...I became interested in the Denon cans.

I have heard both the D2000/D5000 does a great job with movies, gaming, and electronica music (trance, hard dance, house) which pretty much applies me...

My source is PC (X-Fi Fitality) > PPAv2 > DT 770/80 (Darths V3), DT770/250, DT880/250

Suggestions would be very helpful!

If you want to stay sane, get the D5000s. Enjoy them for a bit, then if you get the urge to upgrade, Markl mod them. Your wallet will be a thinner.

If you want your wallet to be a wee bit fatter, get the D2000s. Enjoy them for a bit, and if you get the urge to upgrade, you'll either Markl mod them or somehow in a whim sell off one or two of your headphones to get the D5000s.

Pick your poison

How is it possible to enjoy D1001 MORE than the D5000?

Something tells me you haven't heard the D5000's.

If money isn't a problem, get the D5000.

Something's telling me it's beyond your imagination.

Ask fallow81 what he left for himself after owning the AH-D1001's rebrand from Creative and the D5000's at the same time. Long, direct comparisons cannot be wrong. He told me something about the MD5000's as well. However, there will be many people encouraging others to buy expensive stuff as it's so cool and jazzy...

Personally I think that at $200 the D2000 is the king of its price range. However for the D5000 it has too much competition, especially against the HD650, to really justify its price.

I'd just get the D2000. They're great headphones.

I might want to get the D5000 at some time in the future, but only when I have a lot more money.

These recommendations for getting D1001s and recabling them and having them be better than D5000s seem pretty silly to me. Long detailed comparisons certainly can be wrong.

But sometimes bias works the otherway too. If your so set on d1001 being amazing and or d5000 being overrated your only going to hear what you want to hear. I don't know if your telling the truth(I haven't heard either) but you seem like you are really against the d5000(just like there are people that will assume right away that the d1001 is worthless because its not the flagship) and long direct comparisons in headphones are still 100% subjective you might want to remember that.

Denon D1000/1001 - more forward, smaller soundstage. Sound distort when i play Brahms Symphony#1.

Denon D2000 - bigger soundstage and more airy than D1k, less distort on the same symphony.

Denon D5000 - boomy bass compare to D2k, but it has more spark over D2k. Only distort when it hits the climax (same symphony).

Recabled D2000 - quite similar to D5k, refined bass and doesn't sound as bright as stock. Slightly more transparent.

I have/had all of them at the same time to do the comparison.

I haven't tried markl mod, cannot comment anything.

Hope it helps!

I would be happy to read this if I were a sales manager of Denon. I saw just one sentence saying that recabled D1001 is 90% of stock D2000. With another cable, it might be 110%. They won't be better in each field but they can outperform the D2000's in several fields to the point that this will be more important to you than overall higher result of the D2000 if really higher. They're not my only headphones but they do some things better than Beyers or Grados.

Unless you have a detailed side-by-side comparison of a recabled D1001 vs a stock D5000 I really think you shouldn't make statements that you can't justify. With another cable it might be 110%... in a few more weeks Chinese Democracy might be coming out too
