So I put pressure on the connector end of my headphones in the wrong way (I know, I'm a moron) and now the right ear is non-functional.

I really don't want to have to send these in to be repaired, so I'm looking to try and go in and fix the connector. Even if it's ugly, I just need functional, as I kind of need my headphones to, you know, live...and stuff.

Here's the cord I'm working with for reference: http://i.imgur.com/dsQd8Fn.jpg

I'd appreciate any guidance in how to do this, including whether or not it's even possible. I've got a knife and some electrical tape.

Thanks.

I don't know how you could repair that cord, but doing this might be a good option :)
My DT880

Same mod on my DT770

Then you could use whatever cable you want.

Thanks.

With the damage so close to the plug, best bet is to snip the cable just back from the plug and solder onto a new plug.

Your chances of fixing that one with just a knife and some tape are fairly slim, to none.

No, its not going to work with just a knife and electrical tape.
At the very minimum you are going to need to add a soldering iron and supporting supplies.

WAY back when I did a DT770 star quad mod, and AFIAK the 770 and 880 use the same TRS connector.  I wanted to keep the OEM TRS and retain its use of the little screw-on 1/4 adapter.  I was able to hack and dremel into the OEM TRS, trim off all the rubber and plastic to expose the R/L/G.  Solder onto that.  Then encapsulate it in epoxy, dremel it down smooth and heat shrink it.  A lot of trouble to go through IMHO... It would be beter off just re-terminating with a quality 1/4 TRS.  Although honestly, I think the one thing the aftermarket doesn't do as well as the OEMs is 1/8 => 1/4 TRS adapter.

Heres an MS2 I modded, in similar fashion using the screw-on TRS from a Sony.
