Using the instructions provided by jdog I successfully installed new firmware on my player. And I am very pleased with the changes they have made! Unified menu is much better, and top button now is only for lock/unlock. Also, my problem with battery time has gone! Now it plays for about 11 hours at 5/6 of volume. And I can turn it off and on without expectations that it can forget its charge and turn off. Nevertheless, the battery charge level on the display is still incorrect - it shows full charge almost all the time, but it doesn't bother me very much.
So I am glad that they are working on the firmware and have made some progress. Looking forward for the final version of the firmware.

On my orig 770, the top button pauses and un-pauses (which I like a lot). Can you no longer pause using the top button?

With the latest iteration of the new firmware release for the 770C (8740), the top button turns the player on and off, and locks and unlocks the player, but no longer pauses the song.  The play/select button pauses the music...  I haven't seen the "final release" posted yet, but it should come out soon...

Interesting. I use the button to pause my tunes all of the time and would miss that a lot. I guess I won't be upgrading (if they ever come up with the same upgrade for the 770).

Based on your previous posts re: sound quality out of your HO B, you may not like the sound quality of the upcoming firmware upgrade anyway.  I have purposefully kept the more original firmware on my 770 and original 770C for this reason alone.  With the new 770C, there is no other option in regards to sound quality, so I will go ahead and pursue the latest upgrade for the new 770C model...

Well, it looks like the final version of the new firmware update will be delayed; the Chinese are now celebrating the Mid-Autumn festival.  Xuelin (so far) has not announced a new release date for the final version.  However, someone who goes by the name "Landlord with Cure" on the Baidu forum has added his/her own background images to the most recent preliminary new firmware update.  The firmware version has not been changed except for the background image choices. Two separate versions have been released.  All I can say is the images are interesting, but I won't be keeping either version on my player...  Again, this is preliminary (and not official Xuelin version) version of the new firmware upgrade ONLY for 770C with 8740 DAC.  Here are some examples and I will post links for the firmware download if anyone really wants either one.

OK, here are some examples of the first version:  http://jump.bdimg.com/safecheck/index?url=x+Z5mMbGPAvVIlwZePSt0B3tEqEFWbC4kYEIagYmMtZBzFm1If7AwAcI/1AcUHLqMg90aTdHy5pd6H9JwOHun2XzqnwS4itUh+B8WcjoSaGdxCdnNnxphTz9q+JN97q5HQV5/B1JRvjQRbUmnOAx3lPsTSaCpbSPIBTbScZhePWjdSpTKXZL3XY9qHh6BM0y

Oh to be a 16 year old boy again...

And from version 2, we have:  http://jump.bdimg.com/safecheck/index?url=x+Z5mMbGPAvVIlwZePSt0B3tEqEFWbC4tOatFxkC6cI4wzG2yad9QrAqJMADwDcqPP2r4k33urkdBXn8HUlG+NBFtSac4DHeU+xNJoKltI8gFNtJxmF49aN1KlMpdkvddj2oeHoEzTI=

The password to open this file is: dllm

And examples of the images with this version 2:

Oh, to be a 12 year old girl....

Once I see any evidence of a final official Xuelin firmware version that is supposed to allow for album art, I will be sure to post the link....

Does the old 770C have any new firmware updates?

No, not yet.  Xuelin says they want to put out the official firmware upgrade for the new 770C first; once they feel the new 770C firmware upgrade has been "perfected", they will release new upgrades for the other players...  I assume this includes the 960, 812, 800, 770 and original 770C.  The progress on the firmware upgrade for the new 770C appears to have slowed due to the current Chinese holiday, but once I see the final release, I will post the link in this thread....

Since the final firmware update for the new 770C has been delayed, some of you may wish to play around with the images on your player...  Xuelin seemed to indicate that the new firmware would show album art, but in the meantime, a fellow in China has been changing the images on his player.  He has provided a link for the program he is using to do this with and it is here:  工具在这,里面有详细教程http://pan.baidu.com/share/link?shareid=3165427832&uk=1600582608.  I have tried to play around with the program, but I have not been able to get it to work for me...  If anyone out there knows how to use this program, please share instructions for us here.  The link for the post that contains this download is here, along with some brief instructions: http://tieba.baidu.com/p/4069290022

Can you, please, upload that on other server? If that can access the internal firmware and if that's home made that means the loaders for accessing firmware chip had been cracked. I smell rockbox.
